DiRocco says we should pass on QB early!

#21

with fales garropollo, aj and mettenberger all likely available after the second round or even in the 3rd i think it's a good call

i would like it if we could trade down get mack at 6 along with a high second and a late rounder from atlanta

clowney at 3 is a good call in my book but i wonder if the team would benefit more from three quality starters at positions of need

Dirocco seems to also have an overinflated opinion of chad henne, so it doesn't come as a surprise that he'd be all for bringing checkdown chad back over finding someone new.

True. I see it as a win win. I'm down for Clowney or bridgewater. QB play and DE play has killed us for yrs.

Looks like someone afraid of selecting something other than QB with pick #3.

Keep telling yourself that.  Doesn't make it any less false.

Its gonna be funny when we pick 11th and the top 3 QBs are off the board next year, and all of you will be saying to wait again.

No, they want us to find our QB of the future in the 3rd round.  So I guess our 3rd round picks will be tied up until we find a Quarterback out of the bunch.  Might happen in the next ten years if we're lucky!

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I think people tend to think just because it's "possible" to find a good QB after the first round that you automatically "will" find one.

Yes,we could draft Clowney at #3 and get someone like Mettenberger later. But then you are in the three year cycle of trying to figure out if he's "the guy" again just like we've done so many times and if he isn't you've passed up on a rare chance to get a top 3 pick.

I think Caldwell would love to wait, but I don't think he believes he can.

If he does wait, and takes Mettenberger or Murray or Fales and three years later has to draft another.......he won't be around to make the next QB pick.

He's gotta get his guy now!

I expect them to take Bridgewater,Manziel,or Bortles at #3 and be done with it.

Unless they can get a team to let them move down to low teens and still get one of the top 5 QB's in the draft.

They got a good look at Carr at the Senior Bowl...."IF" they think he's good enough they might move down for a guy like him.

Personally I would like to see them take Watkins at #3 and the best QB available in the 2nd round.......I just don't think they will be able to resist using a rare top 3 pick on a QB is all.

Unless they really think they will be drafting top 5 again next year....which I doubt they do.

QB fear is very real.

I forgot that Manning played against the Seahawks by himself...

If Bridgewater is not there, we go BPA

The combine is going to change almost everyones mock draft. Happens every year.  Poe was the last true combine standout and got drafted high from his performance.  He is a good DT.

Actually, some of the folks who understand next years crop is better and don't believe picking any of this year's QBs with the #3 pick presents much value...

...also would like to see us take two QBs this year.

I suppose some topics are just more complex than some are willing to understand and debate.

You must work with what you've got, and keep working at it.  Taking one or even two this year doesn't prevent us from finding an even better one next year.

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Jacksonville higher than most on Teddy Bridgewater, A.J. McCarron, and Jimmy Garoppolo. McCarron now off their board. Bridgewater still the only QB with a first round grade on their board. Requested Garoppolo to the Senior Bowl over Savage.

Minnesota likes the mobile QBs. Big into Hundley and Mariota before they went back. Already set up a meeting with Tajh Boyd in NYC. Might be in play for Manziel if Cleveland doesn't take him?

Brett Smith has connections to both Oakland and Tampa Bay's QB coaches. Recruiting coordinator from Wyoming is now at Tampa Bay (also recruited David Fales), and Oakland's QB coach originally had Smith committed to San Jose State. Jeff Tedford was at Oregon when Brett Smith's father, Kevin, was playing football for the Ducks.

BOB might actually like Bortles, but he also touted Mallett to those around him at Penn State.

Mettenberger is an interesting prospect. It's not out yet, but Cosell really likes him.

San Diego like Wenning, who is kind of like Rivers himself.

Multiple teams DQing Fales off the board for multiple reasons. Hand size, height, arm, mobility, and character. Character not bad, but he's a "thinker" in the way he apparently treats others. Has some of the "I'm better than you" attributes. Offensive line apparently hated him. An agent who recruits SJSU told me he wouldn't touch him in October for several reasons, including what type of a guy he was.

Some think that Carr has a character red because he spends too much time with his family and not in the film room.

Yeah, because who wants a quarterback that will be snapped like a twig the second he takes a hit?  Wallbash

My dream scenario has Texans taking Manziel, St. Louis taking Clowney and the Jags taking whoever Caldwell prefers between Teddy and Bortles (I still prefer Bortles).

Yep. Where would Manziel get picked if he comes out of the combine at 5'10" and 190 lbs.? I doubt he'd still go in the top half of round 1.

Just about everyone had Geno Smith penciled in as a high 1st round pick this time last year. Things can change a lot between now and April May.
