Sammy Watkins

Yeah i get all my info from the twitter bros. But it would be nice if there was someone who was a good evaluator and had inside sources as well.

Mayock has put a lesser focus on film work and uses sources for his draft talk. Sucks because he was the best but it's a ton of work to put in each year.

I'm a fan a sigmundbloom. He does his homework.

That would be nice, but all the networks care about is creating artificial discrepancies between the experts and junk so they can do debates and create controversy to draw ratings. I'm sure that's fine and well for the average Joe who doesn't think about the draft until after the combine...but for someone who considers himself an amateur draftnik it just makes me angry to see the major networks go out of their way to butcher the whole process.

Quote:He studies the NFL matchups he's going to have to comment on. He has said he doesn't even start to look at college prospects anymore until after the season and a few weeks off after that to recharge then fire up draft study.

I think it's kind of a crapshoot either way.  It's fun to read and speculate, but I don't necessarily think one guy is better than the next.  I don't think there's every been a retrospective study done to see which of those draft Guru's was mostly right in their mock and mostly right/wrong in how they think players will turn out.

I really think most people like or dislike someone just because they find someone likeable.

Quote:yep, be a nightmare for defenses.......Blackmon is the big "if" in that equation
He is a big if for sure.  But with Watkins, Shorts, and Sanders, that would be an above average group.  So far, non-QBs I'd be happy with is Clowney, Watkins, and Mack.  Either of those guys are great prospects a fill a big need.

Solid post, Markulous. Clowney, Watkins, and Mack are all stellar players at positions of need.

Agreeg

I wouldn't be upset with this pick. WR seemed to be the position we finally wouldn't need to address anymore. But with their own separate reasons, Blackmon and Shorts can't be trusted to play a full season.

Not only that but Shorts is really only effective when he has a caliber of WR like Blackmon on the other side. Watkins would be that. (Obviously this is considering that Blackmon might not get back) If Blackmon does get back, then the Jags have Blackmon & Watkins. Unstoppable.

If we get Watkins, we better get a QB that can spread the ball around.

Watkins is elite, and paired with Blackmon, the WR corps has potential to be top 5 in the league. That's something I haven't been able to say for quite a long time.

It's true, but if we did happen to go the WR route I pray that Dave goes one of the non QB purgatory Kaepernick boom/bust prospects like Garoppolo with a later pick, and not the dreaded safe Dalton QB purgatory prototype like McCarron.

Ryan O' Halleran on 1010XL right now talking draft. He said that he would pick Watkins at #3. And it would be a need pick.

Will be one of the top playmakers coming out of this year's draft.....

Could be BAP at number 3

I would agree with you but we have Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne throwing the ball...

He might be the tip top BAP, but Mack will be at worst a fraction of a hair behind...and Dave has already said he is more of a needs picker than BAP picker in the early rounds of the draft. I just can't see WR over QB or pass rusher at 3. It wouldn't upset me at all don't get me wrong, just don't see it.

Should his size concern us?

I don't know about Watkins at 3.  If you take Watkins at 3, that's a lot of projecting you are doing for him.  He has #3 potential, but his body of work is late 1st.  He just screams boom/bust to me.  You could end up with a dynamic playmaker or you could end up with Ted Ginn Jr.  I view Watkins as more of a luxury pick.

Wouldn't hate life if we took him, but we have more glaring needs.

Give me a pass rusher or a QB.

John Oesher wrote in the Ozone today:

"Someone mentioned to me the idea of Sammy Watkins at No. 3 the other day, and while my 1st instinct was no way the Jaguars wouldn't go QB or DE, the more you consider it, the more tempting Watkins becomes. He is a true No. 1 receiver, and the combination of Watkins, Justin Blackmon, Cecil Shorts III and Ace Sanders...........well, David Caldwell keeps talking about adding a playmaker or two, and let's just say Watkins would certainly be one of them."

Has been my sentiments exactly.
