Just because Shahid owns this team doesn't preclude Tony from learning and understanding the management/FO side...

Also, while there may be some differences in how organizations/teams are run between different sports and leagues - there are still many translatable qualities/characteristics/foundational knowledge that one can only possess by being active in FO management.

I don't think we should overreact to the idea that "Tony Khan is going to be more involved."

He's not going to be the GM.  I don't think he would have any desire to do that, anyway.  I also don't think he would be the kind of EVP that TC was.  He's not that type of person.  

Now here's my opinion of what he should be doing if he wants to be more involved, and I hope this is what he does: he should be an extension of the owner.  Shad Khan is still a globe-trotting businessman who is busy selling bumpers and other car parts, with factories all over the world.  I don't think he has time to pay enough attention to the Jaguars to make it a winning team.  Someone has to pay attention for him, and the perfect candidate for that is his son, Tony.  Tony's role should be watching and listening, making sure there is an intelligent process for doing things, and make sure the HC and the GM have the resources they need to be successful.  

That is what I had hoped TC would be when he was hired as EVP of Football Ops, but apparently, he wanted to do more than that, and that resulted in 3 people trying to do 2 jobs, which apparently was a disaster.  I don't think the Jaguars should have an EVP of football ops of the type that TC represented.  I think the GM and the HC should be free to do their jobs without being micro-managed by some guy who outranks them.

Taven Bryan is a great example of needs based drafting, though they thought they'd need him a year out. Turns out he might never actually be a great player but they passed on an MVP QB for him because they already had Bortles.

All 32 teams consider needs with their picks. They are all willing to pass on higher rated players to take a similarly rated player at a position of need. This is reality regardless of who is running our front office next year.

Taven is an example of when need pairs with bap (like all picks). They thought he was one of the highest rated players on their board along with filling a need in a year. 

Chark and Ronnie are also good examples of guys they considered bap while also filling a current or future need.
