If Shad Khan retains Doug Marrone and Dave Caldwell despite their record

I think the most depressing thing I've seen is our 6-10 record is our 3rd best this decade.

Midweek review is to soften the blow that TC is it for changes. Big nothing just like the team.

No one wants to admit just how bad Caldwell’s been Gene's roster building was the reason for Caldwell's roster destruction and his attempt at reconstruction. Gene Smith inherited a fairly OK roster to build upon. Caldwell inherited possibly one of the worst rosters ever. Caldwell did much better than Gene Smith at just about every phase of it. And was still not good. Which speaks to how poorly Gene Smith did imo.
I'd be okay with him keeping both, actually. There's no denying that the players like Marrone, and they played as well as you can expect them to with their limitations the last few weeks. That shows that he's doing his job. Caldwell has done okay to this point. But, howuch is that Coughlin, and how much was Coughlin stepping on his toes?

Caldwell hasn't been good enough, but Gene Smith was a disaster. I want to see a clean sweep of the front office but I'm not under a delusion about how bad he is compared to the worst we've had. The biggest problem with Caldwell was he's a needs drafter, so he consistently drafted bad players early to fill depth charts spots and didn't draft better players in subsequent years because we already had someone playing their position (poorly).
No coach is getting fired on Thursday. Marrone is here to stay for the long haul.
He will probably fire Todd Wash and everything will be rainbows and sherbert.

Jags apparently don't like the candidates available to them. Meaning not many people want to come here , which is expected.
I'd say I'm back at 8O% sure Doug is staying

Meaning not many people want to come here , which is expected. Now. If JackCity is implying that some of the candidates probably wouldn't want this job to begin with. It's hard to argue that. There's better job openings. I would take Dallas, Washington or New York over Jacksonville. Strictly on legacy and historical reasons. It's a job and location with more prestige. Carolina and Cleveland I would probably avoid though just because of the QB situations there alone and ownership. I think you have a lot to address between the Newton / Allen situation and Mayfield situation on those teams. Jacksonville at least has some promise in Minshew. Foles can be given a pass with that injury. He was rushed back out there. It cost the team dearly midseason. That's not on Foles. That's on the front office and coaching staff. I hate to say it. But after mulling over it this morning. It sadly makes sense to ride it out with Marrone from Khan's perspective. I may not agree with it. I would prefer to see a significant effort made at interviewing DC's and OC's from a number of these play off teams this year. But it makes sense now. Coughlin will be the scapegoat. Marrone and Caldwell need to send him a gift basket for buying them another year. They either sink or swim in 2020. And that schedule on paper already looks brutal enough. Hopefully they make the best of 2020's draft selections. The only way I see them making it after 2020 is with a serious play off berth or run. I expect tomorrow's announcement to fall along the lines of Marrone staying with coaching staff changes on defense and Caldwell resuming more of a final say on personnel decisions with Khan Jr. overseeing some of that with more of Marrone's input and insight. Coughlin is the scapegoat though. Apparently he was so terrible and such a tyrant that it directly impacted Marrone's ability to coach so that's why Foles started midseason, the penalties were high due to lack of focus in fear of peeping Tom saying something after practice, etc. Can't wait. ![]() Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Marrone and Caldwell are both good enough to give a post-Coughlin shot to, but not so good as to be untouchable. If Khan finds guys out there that he likes more than the prospect of giving those two another chance, bye. If he doesn't, they both get a one-year stay of execution to see what they can do.
