Some people can eat snacks/drinks in moderation, but the MAJORITY of obese people dont and a good chunk end up having health problems.

 

Those are the people who hurt taxpayers the most because their eating behaviors could have been prevented in the first place.

I would imagine that this decision is not going over well with stock holders. 2 billion a year is a lot of money to lose. It's probably not very likely the move gains you any customers or allows you to make up the loss in profit elsewhere.

If all the drug dealers would quit peddling dope PSHoffman would not have been found dead with a syringe in his arm?  Simply put, it is a retailers choice to sell what they desire, it is individuals choice to use those products or not or shop there or not. I personally think it is not a smart move for a business that operates for profit.

While I do agree, a pharmacy taking this step is a good move.

 

Worst part about people buying cigarettes is how long it takes people to find them.  There are so many brands the person running the counter has to guess 5 times before they get it right.

It's an understandable mistake, but it's 2 bil in rev not profit.

 CVS (common stock) is made up of two combined companies CVS (retail drugstores) and Caremark (a pharmacy benefits manager). In 2013, about $76 bil in REV came from Caremark w/ $65.5 bil from the retail drugstores. The retail drugstores will lose $2Bil in REVENUE not profit. Actually,the estimate is 1.5 bil in lost tobacco sales and .5 bil in lost ancillary sales (food items, lipstick...)to tobacco buyers.

I wonder what the revenue is on a pack of cigarettes.

 

I remember we used to buy a carton of Marbols for about $36-$38 but would sell them for around $55-$56 (remember this is going back 5-6 years) I know the prices have gone up but I imagine the margins are about the same. somewhere around $2 a pack in profit.
