Quote:I can't get into the figure skating..........It's terrible. Probably one of the most brutal things to watch. I felt like every time I went to the channel it was either figure skating or a commercial. I was getting bummed. Quote:It's terrible. Probably one of the most brutal things to watch. they had some of the snow boarders going down hill last night that was pretty cool. I went skiing one time, no lie probably the scariest thing I've ever done lol
I'll be watching some of the events and the opening ceremony. Excited to see speed skating both short track and regular. Usually enjoy watching that every Winter Olympics.

I like watching the speed skating too. For some reason I always get worried that someone will fall and get sliced by those long blades. I actually like curling and bobsledding also.
Russia admits to spying on Olympians in their showers?
Lets not forget gay people are not allowed to touch kids because they tend to be pedophiles...huh? Lets act like no straight person has been one. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/olympi...-1.1605454
I dont think the winter Olympics get a ton of credit, but there are some good story lines going on.
Shaun White pulling out of the slopestyle event sucks for the one guy who could have had a chance. I actually got the chance to meet him and talk to him when I was in Los Angeles a few years back. He came off as a really nice guy. http://keepingscore.blogs.time.com/2014/...-olympics/
When I saw the headline that they started, I was afraid I missed the opening ceremony. Seriously, the media needs to stop telling us what already happened before it is televised. I went to NBC's Sochi website and saw they have news stories about events already completed yesterday. Why did any events occur before the opening ceremony? That was just plain stupid. They don't officially start prior to the torch being lit.
To make matters worse, the TV listings for my area code have the ceremony on Channel 2 instead of Channel 9. That makes me wonder if NBC Sports is really 33 in Gainesville. It is too confusing just to find out when figure skating events are on TV here. It looks like I have a lot of recording to do because some figure skating events are televised in the morning. That is the only winter sport I don't think is boring, so I want to watch all of them. OK, enough ranting. I noticed there is a new team event in figure skating. That will be interesting to watch. I did not know they added it to the long list of figure skating events. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
There is apparently an abundance of strange signs in Sochi, Russia as well. I don't know how to post pics from my phone, but it's on the front page article at somethingawful today. My favorite read, "DANGER - WHEN TOILET IN USE DO NOT TOUCH SPINNING FANS."

My favorite read, "DANGER - WHEN TOILET IN USE DO NOT TOUCH SPINNING FANS." I knew in Europe the toilets are different, but was not sure about Russia. That reminds me of what someone said on a cruise message board: They use the first letter of their word for men or women to identify the gender a public restroom is for instead of an image like we do. I need to never use AOL before I finish watching the next figure skating event.
It looks like parts of some events are replayed in primetime and I can actually watch all of the routines earlier. This is going to be so awesome - 3 hours of only one sport, so I don't have to watch a lot of boring stuff while waiting for a few routines. Thank Gof for NBC Sports.

Quote:I don't remember ever hearing that one. This isn't politics. It's history. Most people would agree with me that if you want to judge the Soviet Union, 90% of it would be negative, and justifiably so. But you have to give those people credit for the way they fought the Nazis. The biggest battles of WWII were fought on Soviet soil, and most of the casualties were Soviet soldiers and citizens.

I was just trying to make sure we don't turn it into something bad. Yes, I know it is history. I also know the USSR was our enemy after the war was over and still is today as a smaller Russia, so you can put me in the "most people" category. Had anybody on this board ever heard of Sochi before learning it is the location of the 2014 Winter Olympics? I did not and am wondering why not Moscow.
Now I am really confused. The IOC picked a city that never stays cold and rarely dips below freezing, with an average January temperature of 43 degrees, for the Winter, not Summer, Olympics. Looks to me like getting enough snow for the skiers and snowboarders could be a challenge.
