Jags take two DT with first two picks

#41

"Derrick Brown is really, really good!"

"Derrick Brown is really good. But he's not really, really good."

I wonder how many pages in how many threads we can milk this debate?

Not saying they are the same talent level or prospect, but it's the equivalent of Harvey/Groves as your first two picks.

However, if you are saying that Brown at 9, [mumblemumble] at 20, and Kinlaw is there at 42, by all means, that is FANTASTIC value and should be the pick.
You dont think DT and NT are both needs?  I really hope Bryan takes the next step this year but he is still a question mark

If Brown somehow falls to 9 he will be the BPA.  He is a top 5 player in this draft easily, I like some of the tackles but not sure i can say that about any of them.  If he falls to 9 it will be like Allen falling to us last year.

You set yourself up for failure there. It's highly unlikely that Kinlaw is BAP at 20, especially if the team does land Brown at 9. If Brown is that good, shouldn't Bryan do well? If Brown is that good, do you NEED to put Kinlaw there, or can you maybe get one of the next tier guys, and be just fine? That may allow you to plug a different hole, too.

They are both great players. There's a lot of great players in a draft, though, and I'm wary to leave other positions unaddressed when doubling up on one (interior line). I prefer to diversify the portfolio.

So it was a mistake to take Henderson in the 1st round and a top 10 pick the year after we took Stroud in the 1st round with the 13th overall pick?  The defense could be dominant with those 2 at DT

separate drafts. Completely different pools of talent. If they were the same draft, do you really think we would have taken Big John at 7, and immediately after take Stroud at 13? Who would have been there at 13 that we allowed to go elsewhere? Who did we start in that person's place, and was it worth leaving their position unaddressed?

I get that it can happen. My preference is to spread the picks across multiple positions when the value is equal. If you're at 20, and Kinlaw, Ruggs, Thomas, Henderson are still on the board and you have all four with a mid-first grade on your board, you're still going to put more chips in on that interior line? I don't think Dave would, partly because it also closes the book on Bryan, who he spent a first on just two years prior. Were it up to me in that scenario, I go with Henderson, again assuming the foursome all had similar rating on the board. Flip the script a bit, and we have Kinlaw, Austin Jackson, Shenault, and K. Fulton as the best available at 20, I personally have him a tier above the other three and absolutely take Kinlaw.

Again, my preference.

Yes I would because I think Kinlaw is the best player of the 4 you mentioned.  Plus we run a 4-3 so both players will be on the field at the same time.  It's not like one will be riding the bench.

I don't think any of those 4 are on the board unfortunately.

Taking DT twice in the first round would be such a Jag thing to do. Probably will happen. Would be such a massive mistake. Just keep disregarding the QB position and giving him help. Let’s stay mediocre and hope for flash in the pan years.
