I'll borrow a line from Michael Scott of "The Office"........"We're all homos........homo sapiens".

Yep, that's true - and the only thing that matters. If you are human, you deserve as much respect as anyone else no matter who you love.

OP, "admits to being gay" has a weird ring to it, like he's got something to feel bad about by letting the world know what scouts already knew.

I don't think this affects his stock at all. In fact, maybe there's a secret plan in Minnesota to get Priefer to resign by drafting Sam and putting him on special teams duty for his first year  Ninja

Or maybe not. Either way, this is an event that's been a long time coming, and I hope that Sam has a very long, prosperous career.

I totally agree. The word "admits" sounds like he did something wrong by choosing to be gay.

There can't be a secret plan to get rid of Priefer. Michael Sam said he does not care what team drafts him. Because he is a defensive player Priefer will not be his coach. I don't even know if he is still at Minnesota because usually new head coaches hire their own assistants.

"Choosing to be gay"

Did you choose to be.....the way you are?

I knew somebody who did............but that was in jail

I think it's good this is finally happening. Regardless of whether you think being gay is bad or whatever, that doesn't change an individual's created value, which is immense.

2015 NFL Draft - Analyzing Targets www.jungle.jaguars.com/index.php?/topic/7892-2015-nfl-draft-analyzing-targets/

If some GMs pass on him for this nothingness, it would be the Jags gain if they pick him. If he can play, who cares.

#69

I think other gay players will see how this plays out. If everything is kosher, they will also come out. Eventually it will be a non-issue.

media circus time

for the next few months its will it affect his draft stock?

after the draft day if he goes lower than expected it will be its still a homophobic league

if he goes at the right level or higher it will be ohhh how will his teammates react to him

ultimately it doesn't matter one jot and hopefully his example will inspire others to come forward til it's no longer an issue.

good luck to the lad

I find it interesting that people think this will be a locker room issue, as if players will not want to be naked in front of the guy.  After all, they seem to have no problem being stark naked in front of fully dressed female reporters.

This is true.   If it depresses his draft stock, then the team that selects him will get a bargain.

Some of you got a lot of growing up to do. It's 2014. The world is not flat and some people are gay. Yes, even football players.

Quote:As anon2112 commented - He's a brave kid. It won't be too much of an issue - save a few mean spirited comments from some of the uneducated, ignorant or extreme intolerant religious right. (and of course no small amount of media hype and over dramatization)  I wouldn't mind if the Jags used a fourth round pick to try him out at LEO.   (11.5 sacks last season and 19 tackles for loss)

Sidebar note to the OP:   The word "admits" in your thread title sort-of makes it sound as if he's guilty of something. Not trying to start a religious debate - but whatever your feelings/convictions on homosexuality - it's kind-of a poor choice of words.  (nothing personal - and I doubt that was your intention)

It wasn't my intention at all. I know there are gay people in this world. Their sexual orientation doesn't bother me at all.

I don't like using the word "admit" when someone comes out of the closet. Makes it feel like it's a crime.

But I'm also an idiot.

THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.

RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

What are you calling nothingness? Everybody cares because he just broke down a big barrier for all gay and lesbian athletes who have been hiding in the closet.
