Jags Select Sam

#21

I have no idea how Dave Caldwell and Gus Bradley will rate Michael Sam.   Yet,  with the Jaguars having a multitude of picks in the mid rounds,  on the surface they would have a greater chance of drafting Sam than most teams.

I don't see Dave or Gus wanting that media circus here in Jax.

The media circus factor could easily lead to one or more teams passing on Michael Sam,  along with concerns about how an openly gay player will fit in a locker room.   Despite this,  I still believe that Michael Sam will be drafted close to the spot his football ability reflects.  All it takes is one team to view him as someone they believe can be an asset to their program.

Quote:Stop it with the Manti joke. We all know he is not gay.

I don't think Michael Sam cares who picks him as long as he is fully accepted by everyone for who he is.

Have a chuckle every now and then JW......it's good for the soul. (-:

Hows not talking utter [BLEEP] for a second?

Daniel Jeremiah names Jags as a candidate to draft him. (so did DiRocco)

Whether or not he brings a circus is something you will only know by talking to him.

Assuming he isn't Chris Kluwe, waving a rainbow flag and [BLEEP] slapping senators (not that that is a bad thing, its just coupling that with being openly gay is asking for a media circus) everyone will soon get bored when they realize he isn't Liberace and just a regular guy who happens to be gay.

I hope they draft a better pass rusher earlier in the draft, personally.

(and- for the record -  I don't give two cents about any players sexual orientation, race, religion or anything else as long as they can help our crappy pass rush and they stay out of trouble with the law)

Even going on the assumption that Michael Sam just wants to play football,  not be what some would consider a pioneer :

I think there's a good chances that activists will attempt to keep Michael Sam in the spotlight for as long as possible.   With the media also trying to keep this a story for various reasons.     I'll be surprised if Michael Sam's rookie season isn't a media circus.    The upcoming Combine will likely be a preview for what's to come.   My guess is that Michael Sam will get more media coverage at the Combine than every other 2014 NFL Draft Prospect combined.

If we spend all our time avoiding possible media circuses, we'll eliminate a lot of potential draft picks.  Like Johnny Football, for example.

After reading a lot of tweets from current and former players, I am surprised Chris Kluwe and Brendan Ayenbajedo were not two of them.

Michael Sam said he came out now to get the media frenzy out of the way so he can concentrate on football after the combine.

Only he knows that, I think its unfair to assume that just because he was honest about himself that he wants to do more than play football.

If just wants to play football, keeps his head down and he refuses to answer anything but football questions, the media will get bored, because frankly who Michael Sam sleeps with isn't interesting.

Why would he refuse to answer questions? He came out knowing the media will make a big deal of it.

I have no idea what Michael Sam's objectives are.  It's possible he just wants to play football.

Where we disagree is with regard to the media.   The media often does everything possible to set agendas.   With an issue such as this one,  I can't envision the media letting up anytime soon.   Most of the public will want to move on to something else but that won't stop the media from trying to keep this story on or as close to the front page as possible.

Examples of the Chargers suffering?  They were a playoff team.  I haven't heard a word about Manti Teo in about year.

Besides this is a completely different situation.
