Davon Hamilton - Rd3, Pick 73

Even though I wasn't crazy about the first round picks (I am coming around on Henderson), I think otherwise it's too early to tell this from a talent perspective.

I have serious doubts about the FO and their willingness/ability to give great players (assuming we have any in this class) second contracts, so from that perspective your may be right.

No Dareus. No Campbell. Bryan lacks the power and weight to man the inside. We'll be seeing new looks on defense. He has some sneaky pass rushing ability as well. When Allen and Chaisson are roaming free because Hamilton's eating up space inside?

You'll be happy. Still a chance to add Leki Fotu and Benito Jones today in RD4.

Fotu?

Round 4?

Today?

 Yes please.

hopefully with one of the 8 picks we will land someone you like more and you can pull the ole "swap the picks" mind trick

Haha, I love that trick. I first learned how to use it 2005 when everyone here was howling about us picking Mattloaf #1.

Someone said that if we had switched our first and second rounders (Khalif Barnes) we'd be happy- make Barnes #1 and Mattloaf #2.

My favorite was the justification of surrendering our 2010 second round pick for taking Derek Cox in 2009.

It’s not a sexy pick but goodness man, we needed this guy.

Exactly, if you can't stop the run you're toast. This guy eats up blockers and pushes the pocket. There's a reason DJ Reader got 50 million from the Bengals. You need stout tackles.

The pick the pats used to take Gronk. Great value there.

I don;t know if any of you have seen this highlight reel, but tell me what you see of Hamilton when you watch.

I see a guy with bulk, power, surprising lateral agility and hustle.

I think he'll be an outstanding NT.

How long before Hamilton jumps Jones on the depth chart?

Abry has always been more effective with less snaps. Hamilton took part time snaps at OSU.

I think we're looking at All Woods starting the majority of the year.

Ideally they all play well enough that they can keep snaps fairly evenly distributed between them and stay fresh that way.
I don't think we'll see much of Abry Jones on early downs though. Not after last year's run game struggles.

Agreed, hopefully we see Hamilton and Woods next to each other on 3rd and 1

I see Marcus Stroud playing John Henderson's position.  I really like the way he plays football.  Disruptive with burst, ability to penetrate quickly from a position you don't typically see that.

Glad to have the future starting NT on the roster. No offense to Al Woods, Abry Jones or Dontavious Russell.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

First half of year base snaps:

NT: Woods 50%; Hamilton 25%; Jones 25% (3rd & long)

Second half:

NT: Hamilton 50%; Woods 25%; Jones 25% (3rd & long)

I just hope this aint a Michael Bennett or Smoot/Russell pick. Or a Pendleton. I don't see that, but I'm always sketchy on these picks until they pan out one way or the other; regardless of the round they were drafted in. Taven Bryan...

...D'Anthony Smith and so on

He had his best game as a pro yesterday. Hope thats a good sign of things to come from him. Not sure if I've ever seen Abry Jones have a game like that here

The Colts let us win in Week 17 last year. Otherwise we would have had the #6 pick, selecting Derrick Brown (DT - Auburn). Hope everyone is still happy about that meaningless win.
