Nothing I read about him as a football player stands out at me. Draft analysts are saying he is too small to be a DE and too stiff to be an OLB.

You've gotta keep in mind, we're not talking about a 1st or 2nd rounder. We're talking about a mid to late rounder. If he's there in the 5th or 6th, I wouldn't mind seeing how he does. The videos that I've seen of him, he wasn't a slouch. Even the games where he didn't get a sack. The problem other than size that I have is that he only rushed in front of the right tackle as the LDE. That may have been to hide other deficiencies in his game. Now if the argument was to draft him 2nd or 3rd, and there were other players there that would fit the mold, that would be questionable. 

 

Regarding size, we've had many DPR's fail who were basically undersized DE's who couldn't play LB, so I could understand your apprehension. But Elvis Dumervil 5'11", 260 and Robert Mathis 6'2" 242 were both later round picks, probably due to being undersized, who've turned out to be sack machines. If we could get half their production from one guy would be great.

This has been a big discussion about his productivity and not about his sexual preference. We were discussing this at work and came to this conclusion.


1. They need a solid organization with a coach that has a solid grasp on his locker room.

2. An open minded fan base.

3. A team with need and DEPTH that will allow the ensuing circus to settle down.

4. The team that drafts Manziel. His spotlight will be brighter than anything else in this years draft class.


Maybe a team like the the Seahawks or 49rs.

He will be gone before round 6. NFL teams are not going to be stupid about it and let him fall that far. People are saying 3-5, but I don't see him being picked on Day 2.

 

Elvis Dumervil and Robert Mathis are not DPRs. They never take a play off. The only reason they waited so long to get picked was their size, not their athletic ability. How long Michael Sam waits to hear his name called depends on what team scouts see him as - a 4-3 LDE or a 3-4 OLB. He is going to the combine as a DE because he was one at Missouri, but linebackers will be there on the same day, which can affect his draft stock.
