Jags Select Sam

Quote:Yes. I would. Because it's NOT NORMAL.

It's pathetic because I don't agree that 2 men should sleep together? I never said I would discriminate, ever. And I don't. That doesn't mean I have to agree with what they are doing.
I mean did you read Sam's dads comments? He said?

Sam's father took the news hard. He said he was eating at a Denny's restaurant but had to leave after receiving the text.

"I couldn't eat no more, so I went to Applebee's to have drinks," Sam Sr. told the newspaper. "I don't want my grandkids raised in that kind of environment."

Sam Sr., who described himself as "old-school," told the newspaper the idea of a gay player in the NFL bothers him, even when that person could be his own son.

He told the newspaper that late Hall of Famer Deacon Jones, the leader of the Rams' Fearsome Foursome who is credited with terming the word sack, "is turning over in his grave."

He told the newspaper, however, that he loves his son and hopes he makes it into the NFL.

Deacon Jones would be turning in his grave? Really?

I understand where you're coming from because that "old school" style of thinking is exactly that... Old School.

It's not exactly old school, considering me and my friends talked about this yesterday and all of us are not over the age of 25. It's still very current. Most people are forced into agreeing and accepting this lifestyle because if you're not you're labeled a BIGOT.

I don't think its about agreeing or accepting the lifestyle. I think its about respecting another human being to do what they want to as long as it doesn't directly effect you. If it does, then you can have a problem with it. If it doesn't, why should you care?

Respecting one's choice is one thing.

That doesn't make my opinion of that choice any less disgusting.

Tommy, noone is forcing you to think what 2 consensual men (or women) do in the priacy of their home.  Noone is forcing you to watch dudes get it on online.  You don't have to be "disgusted" by anything.  Just choose not to think about it.

Everyone has the right to have their own opinion on it. Nobody has the right to tell somebody they HAVE to believe something is ok or right. Whether you call it tolerance or acceptance is irrelevant. The wave of support nationally says that laws will imminently change to provide equal opportunity and protection for LGBT people.

That doesn't mean everyone needs to like it or agree with it. And they shouldn't be crucified for it. But they are going to have to deal with it one way or the other before long.

My biggest concern as a parent is a staggering statistic I saw which says 26% of all kids who come out to their parents are kicked out of their homes. So 1 in 4 parents only love their kids if they are straight. Sam shouldn't have come out to his dad via text. This is a face to face discussion. But looking at this stat helps me understand a little why he may have gone that route.

It should also be noted, almost nobody cares when two women want to sleep together, but dudes? Ewww.. gross.
Only a chump boos the home team!

So basically anything you don't agree with, just ignore it as if it doesn't exist. Just making sure I understood here.

I have a newborn daughter and would be equally upset.

I think people saying it doesn't effect them are wrong. That's like white people saying Martin Luther King I had a dream speech wouldn't effect them. I surrently think Mlk effects us all some good and some bad.

No, if you get "disgusted"... the word he used, about something that you can literally just choose not to be disgusted with, you can just ignore it and not think about 2 men having sex together.

Also, it's your right to disagree with a lot of things.  I have known people that are disgusted when they see a black man holding hands with a white woman.  Do they have a right to be disgusted?  I guess.... I just disagree with them and would tell them to [BLEEP].

And that is your right. I don't know that any parent wishes for a gay kid, but straight couples keep making them. In a perfect world, agree with it or not, parents would still love their kids regardless.

How do I tell my five year and six year old boys to ignore two men kissing or holding hands in the mall? Even they think it's 'yucky'.

They're 5... they call a lot of things yucky.  A lot of 5 year old call it "yucky" when mommy and daddy kiss too.

Don't make a huge deal about it.

Quote:this video, and the "argument" he puts forth is quite stupid.  Noone is calling Sam a hero for "liking men" or "likin d1ck"..

Some people call him a hero for being a pioneer for other gay men and women to follow.  If Sam does it, and actually enjoys a normal NFL career, more people will do it.  There have been gay men and women playing professional sports that had to "stay in the closet" for reasons known to everyone.  To those people, and their cause, he might be a hero.

I also would not call him a hero.  But I would also would not call every single person that enlists in the Armed services a hero.  I would call only a select few people real heros in this world... but this video is [BLEEP].

I enjoyed the video but I agree with most of what u said. I agree Sam is not a hero and not every person enlisted are.

How can he choose not to think about it when the team he likes and plays in the NFL could possibly have gay players in it that "come out?"  It is in his face....I'm not saying his opinion is right or wrong, but to say dont think about it is crazy.  People want everyone to like everything and everyones choices in life.  People do things every day that would be looked down upon by society.  Not everyone does things that everyone will agree with, and just because someone voices their opinion, it does not make them wrong.

With that said, I hope he has a great career in the NFL.  I do hope though that he doesn't use this as a place to preach (and it does not appear that he will)  Its just like the black/white issues being discussed here lately.  In most peoples minds race has no affect on decisions, and I think being gay/straight is the same way.

Doesnt seem like he had a good relationship with them anyway, so it didnt seem to matter.  When he went to his hometown to visit, he didnt even stay with family.  He stayed with his friends.

Let me ask you a question.  You've  been vocal in the Zimmerman/DMX and Russel Wilson threads about discrimination being prevalent.

How is it any different from a white person discriminating against a black person compared to someone discriminating against someone because they are gay?  Same thing, different circumstances.  Its a weird logic and seems somewhat hypocritical.

Do you understand what discrimination is? It would seem you are confused on the difference between discrimination and my own matters of opinion. My opinion on homosexuality is separate from my belief that they deserve fair and equal treatment.

Any person gay or straight who makes out in a mall is gross. A simple peck or two guys holding hands is only a big deal if you make it one. W did that in front of dozens of cameras with the Saudi king. Kids look to how their parents react at that age. If a parent is grossed out by homosexuality, the kids will pick up on it. In most cases, if the parent shows little reaction, the kids won't either. Regardless of whether you think its okay or not, allowing kids to see two guys or girls holding hands or sharing a quick peck is going to have zero effect on whether or not they are gay. They are or they aren't and they'll figure it out in high school or sooner. As a parent, I don't make a big deal about it because no kid under 10 should know much about human sexuality. I simply tell my kid sometimes a boy loves a boy or a girl loves a girl. She gets that and it won't be a big deal to her what other people do in the privacy of their own homes when she gets older. Again.. that is just my approach. Not everyone is okay with homosexuality and its not my place to tell someone what they believe is wrong. I would like to reiterate ANYONE who makes out in public is gross. Nobody cares or wants to see that. Get a room.
