Quote:Do you understand what discrimination is? It would seem you are confused on the difference between discrimination and my own matters of opinion. My opinion on homosexuality is separate from my belief that they deserve fair and equal treatment.

I totally understand the difference.  I also know that someone that expresses their views like you have here will discriminate in some way against people that go against your views.

I know you will have an arguement against this, but its true.

Quote:Why does it upset people when others say being gay is not normal? It's not.

We are talking about the guy's father, who as a parent has an obligation to support him even though his sexuality is "not normal." He basically chose not to accept his son anymore. That is like what if I was not accepted in my family because I have Asperger's syndrome, which makes me not normal?

They're boys.  Kissing is gross no matter the gender I'm sure.

If my 7 year old daughters saw two men kissing in a mall, or two women, they would think it was romantic.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Of course they should love you regardless.

Asperger's is not normal, in the aspect of social and communication skills

Quote:Doesnt seem like he had a good relationship with them anyway, so it didnt seem to matter.  When he went to his hometown to visit, he didnt even stay with family.  He stayed with his friends.

That explains why he texted it to his dad instead of planned a face to face meeting.

But it still matters how his dad reacted to the news because leaving Denny's to drink at Applebee's sends the message, "I don't like you anymore."

Now let's stop arguing about something completely unrelated to football and go back to discussing Michael Sam Jr.'s draft status.

Holding hands? Really... you're worried about your kids seeing 2 men holding hands? Do you think that if they see that then they will be more prone to becoming gay?

Kids think things are "yucky" do to their parents influence. I see it all the time at the school i teach. Children are inherently loving towards everyone but its the parents who push their views on children that skew them. White kids at school calling black kids the N-word. You think elementary school kids just said to themselves one day "hey.. I hate that kid because of his skin color... let me yell at him." No.

Michael Sam is going to have it pretty hard in the NFL.  At least off the field.  I remember reading that some NFL players said they'd feel uncomfortable blocking him.  If that's the case, then I want him on our team -- because can you imagine an NFL player refusing to block him, and he goes to the QB untouched?  Time to break the sack record!

Where did you read that? I read every article I could find on the topic and none of them say such a thing.

Sheldon Richardson, who was Michael Sam's roommate at Missouri, called anybody who would not embrace him in the NFL immature.

lol thanks man. I teach Elementary PE... best job ever,

He will definitely have it tough in the locker room but its common place for people to make jabs at each other. The WR's calling the linemen fat or just making jokes as guys do. I hope Sam can just be one of the guys of the locker room and not be treated any different (which is obviously impossible as it seems right now.) Mizzou did it so an NFL team should be able to too.

Why impossible? He was not treated any different during his senior year at Missouri.

The NFL locker room is a very different place than a college locker room. You would think that with age, football players would mature but I dont think thats the case. Dolphins locker room ring a bell? Maybe not impossible but it's going to be very difficult. Players will treat him differently for fear that if they say the wrong thing to him, he could take it public and then its all over the news.

White, black, fat, skinny, tall and short all get made fun of in the locker room but this will be a first.

Richie Incognito was one of the guys who tweeted support, believe it or not. This is nothing like the situation in Miami. A locker room is a workplace where everyone is expected to act professional.

Have you seen professional athletes? Of course they are expected to act professional but do they do that all the time? Absolutely not.

Richie gave support but thats to the public. You of all people have no clue what goes on in a men's locker room. I can tell you from experience that some of the stuff done and said in that locker room are not appropriate for the rest of the world to see or hear.

Of course I don't know what happens in there, but I know players don't want to be suspended for treating a teammate like crap.

It happens all the time but players just don't speak up.

If it happened to Michael Sam, it would be a repeat of the Dolphins scandal.

If Vince Lombardi could keep his coaches and players from making negative statements about a gay player on his team in the 60s, I don't think modern coaches would have such a hard time making it a non-issue.
Only a chump boos the home team!

Do you know about any gay players on his team? Probably not.

Times change. There are more gay players now than there were 50 years ago.
