What would a 2014 Vic Ketchman Jaguars mock draft look like?

#1

Here's my guess on the first four rounds:

1 - Aaron Donald DT/Pittsburgh.

Donald hits on a lot of key demographics. Ultra-productive and under-sized. Played college ball in Pennsylvania. And when in doubt, always go BAPP (Best Available Pitt Panther)

2 - Carlos Hyde RB/Ohio State

Hyde was a dominant running back in the Big Ten, which puts him in high demand on the Ketchman board. The Jaguars are still steaming after missing out on Beanie Wells back in 2009 and finally get their slow, road grader that all modern NFL teams need to win. Clearly the BAB10RB (Best Available Big 10 Running Back).

3 - AJ McCarron QB/Alabama

A winner. Kids got moxie. Hard to put your finger on what it is but he has it. Could be next in line of great Bama QB's like Bart Starr, Kenny Stabler and Joe Namath. And picking a QB here is less risky than taking one in the top 5.

4a - Max Bullough LB/Michigan State

A perfect compliment to Pozluszly and Russell Allen. A plug and play starter who will help stop the run.

4b - Jack Mewhort RT/Ohio State

Another guy in the trenches for the running game.

Nailed the emphasis on eastern/midwestern players, but too many southern players in this one.  Not enough linemen, either.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Vic said Aaron Donald is too small.  And he also said:

<b>Yeah, they have. It’s a novel concept: Find a quarterback in the third round with whom you can win a championship while he’s a $681,085 cap hit. Wanna try it? Let me know when you find another one of those guys and all of the defensive talent you need to surround him. Russell Wilson’s contract expires after the 2015 season, which means the Seahawks will have to do a new deal with him before that, probably prior to the start of the ’15 season. That’s when the Seahawks’ way will have to change; the current model isn’t sustainable. Sometimes you just get lucky.</b>

Not sure if 2014 Vic would wait until the third round to pick a QB.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

You know, call me crazy but Wilson seems like just the type of guy to resign kind of cheap for a young Super Bowl winner. He has already been drafted three times. Could be completely wrong about him, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I kind of feel like he would be a Clowney fan, he does love insane measurables.

Definitely dont think he would go for McCarron, not enough upside. I think he would be a Garoppolo or Mettenberger fan.

I feel he is going to be like Brady when it comes to contracts. Wilson wants to win, he would probably be happy making 7 million a year and maybe less so that they team doesn't break the bank for one player.

You're dreaming.

Wilson is going to make 20+ million per year.

We'll see. I think he cares about winning. Making that much money a year doesn't give you a lot of options to keep talent around you, so that you can keep winning.

Vic Ketchman:

I believe the Jags will draft whoever is at the top of their board at the time their pick comes around.  If not I believe they will trade back to where their guy is and take him there.

Vic understands completely the necessity of having a top flight QB. But I think he worries too much about Cap manipulation and that it can put teams in purgatory the way we were back in the day. Granted, that still happens - just look at the talent dump that New Orleans is going through - but it's not as damaging as it was in the past.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

If the Seahawks wanted to keep his price down they'd have immediately signed him to a larger money long term deal last offseason after his rookie year. They probably could have gotten him for the kind of figure you're talking about back then, but when they sign him now they'll be negotiating for a super bowl winning QB.

If he gets a deal for less than 20million a year I'd be shocked.

It is against the collective bargaining agreement to resign/re-negotiate a  rookie until a year before their contract is up......

Just FYI....

Or more specifically, as stated in Article 7, Section 3(k)(i) of the CBA:

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Helvetica Neue', HelveticaNeue, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;">"A Rookie Contract for a Drafted Rookie may not be renegotiated, amended or altered in any way until after the final regular season game of the player's third contract year."

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Helvetica Neue', HelveticaNeue, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;">

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Helvetica Neue', HelveticaNeue, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;">So even if the Seahawks wanted to lock him up long term, which they probably do, they couldn't anyway until after next season.

Barring an absolute disaster of a season this year, Wilson will be the highest-paid player in the history of the league when he gets a new deal.

Thanks for the info. Either way they're going to be paying out bigtime next offseason.

We will see. I think Russell's a smart guy and assuming they repeat or get close next year, I feel he will go for a Tom Brady contract. He will still get paid, but it just wont be 120 million with like a 70 million guarantee or something like that. I think he is smart enough to realize he isn't going to win SBs by himself.

I see RW doing a contract for 6 years, 70 million, with 40 - 45 million guaranteed.

He's already won superbowls, and at a cut-rate pay grade. He's going to be all about his own financial security, and rightly he should be.

He has won 1 superbowl, and he wasn't THE reason they won.....

Keep in mind he is not top 10 at his position. He is smart with the football, but he isn't an elite passer by any means at this time.
