We didn't replace the DE's we lost. With who? Al Woods? He's a run stuffer that has zero effect on the pass rush. Rodney Gunter? He only had 11 career sacks.

So real question. I definitely think Marrone and Wash should be gone by the end of the season (Should have 2 seasons ago, but what can you do). But what is the benefit of doing it now versus say Week 16-17? The team is not playing well, but it much more lack of talent, scheme, and execution; not a lack of effort or a lost locker room. If Caldwell is also being fired, the GM search takes priority and you can't really get a public head start on that until later this year anyways. I know we all like aspects of Gruden's playbook to start the season, but he was not a great HC at Wash. Letting him coach the last 6-10 games puts the Jags in a bind if they do better in that string. Especially, since Shad had kept the "interim" guy on because he thought he was did better and he seems to value continuity way more than NFL fans or other owners tend to. If Gruden stays OC, we may have a better chance at seeing if Minshew can be a franchise QB by the end of season rather than give Gruden more jobs/responsibilities in a weird COVID season where they may already be short staffed. Also, if we decide we like Gruden playbook and he unlocks Minshew, moving him to interim HC and then trying to demote back go OC him next year won't work. For me personally, I get the impression Moron'ee has no fire in his belly to win. He's a wandering, mealy mouthed sort of NFL coach guy that will always get a job as a sub C'ing job if he fails at HC so why should he care. He'll have a really good retirement because average to bad coaches just get recycled throughout the NFL in lower coaching positions. There's no incentive for HC's in successful college programs to move to the NFL because they're making several mil a year and are very comfortable thank you. Why go to the NFL to wind up coaching on a bad team and have to deal with players that are essentially highly paid jerks with so many other conditions and restrictions you would have to deal with. A good HC + QB are gold in the NFL if you can get them at the same time.

Given COVID, presidential election, and everything else going on right now. I seriously doubt an early season firing changes the public relations equation. If anything the Jags are under the radar right now. And being the team to fire your coach before the Jets fire Adam Gase just makes puts the franchise more on the national headline "Tanking for Trevor". Even if that is Kahn's goal, it doesn't make sense to bring to the forefront of everyone's mind.
Just on that two point attempt, can I get everyone who thought it was a terrible idea to confirm that what they were thinking at that point in the game was "Hey, based on the way this game has gone so far, if the Jaguars manage to tie it up and take it to overtime I really fancy their chances of winning!"
Because, you know, that would make them clinically insane. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! It offered no advantage to go for two at that point in the game. Sure it did. Your options (assuming you get the back to back scores you need) are go to overtime (a likely loss) or go for the win. To win you need one two point conversion and one one pointer. If you take the one point first, when you go for two either you make it and win or fail and lose. If you take the two points first and succeed you win. If you fail, though, you have a second chance - you go for two again and can then take the long shot of an overtime win. If you think your chance of converting a two pointer is better than your chance of winning in overtime then you absolutely do benefit from going for two on the first TD. I would like to know 2 things...
1. What do announcers think when they are assigned to Jag games? 2. Who dis today's announcers get on the wrong side of to get assigned to today's game?
A new broom always sweeps clean.
My yard is starting to shape up since Ive gotten my Sunday afternoons back.
The inability to effect an opposing QB is stunning. Especially being soiled in 2017, which seems like such a long time ago. DJ does start play against and the offense is offensive. Jack goes out and the defense is offensive. Your are in a world of trouble if the loss of one player destroys the entire continuity of your offense or defense. The lack of depth is staggering. James Robinson has been remarkable. DJ & Shennault can be special. This team is young and won’t win 4 games this year. Maroon is overmatched. I was wrong to expect more. |
