Minshew Not The Man

He has been a little bit skittish the last two games and his accuracy was off against Cincy which is a relatively new thing for him but that is largely due to the defensive game plans evolving to take away what he does best. Now the question should be how does he develop to adjust back. All young QBs go th through this phase. The defense quickly allows the game to get out of control and he overcompensates. Y’all are really hyping up his mistakes. It also doesn’t help that the coaching staff abandoned the run too early in at least top games this year. Exactly. It's a learning curve. I'm confident he'll learn to let the game come to him. If he doesn't and his development stagnates then we have a problem. We'll know by year end.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

While I may suggest Minshew is not the guy, we do have MUCH bigger problems in our FO. If the last 20 years hadn’t played out the way it had for this franchise, I would probably be more patient with Minshew. At this point, I’m ready to either be winning or be on the right path for winning....currently we are neither. As much as I love an underdog story, Minshews lack of college pedigree and regression is worrisome. I think we are long overdue for a star QB in Jacksonville.
"Regression", geez...

Minshew Mania is here to stay. You learn to live with the flaws.
His game isn’t built around Tom Brady like ropes. His game is built around a West Coast type Alex Smith type of game. His stats are on par with top 5 in the league. Be happy we don’t have to deal with a guy like Haskins or Darnold.

I was (and still am) a Minshew homer until the last couple of games when he started looking stressed, spooked and uncomfortable in the pocket. Hopefully he turns it around, but if not, it's clipboard city.
Minshew be looking like a Brian Hoyer arm last night. Cut bait and move on. Put in Luton

Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers, whomever, none of these could perform with the current OL. On several plays last night Mahomes had 5 seconds to throw against a good team. Thats not on the QB.
Game are won on the OL or DL. Its the core of success. Until this team has stable OL/DLs its going to struggle. I like Minshew, he's not the long term answer. He's sure fun to watch! But our starting C has been out the last two games and our starting LT was tossed out in one game (shouldn't have been imo) and got hurt early in the 2nd last week. So those things certainly will have an impact. But at least half of the sacks taken have been on Minshew either not seeing the open man or not taking the check down, looking for the big play. He's gotta learn when to throw it away also. He's still young, I still like him and think he can be a semi-long term answer (I think he could play well enough to earn a 2nd contract) but he's gotta play better. Of all of our issues right now, I think OL is pretty far down the list. Not that we don't need to improve at all there, just not the glaring issue like defense or our young QB making some rookie esque mistakes.

This is a results-oriented business. There are no trophies or titles given for "moral victories" or for "winning the draft". Our record with DC is 37-86. 6-10 is our 2nd best season in 8 years of Caldwell leadership. These are the FACTS.

As bad as our team is I can't comprehend why people want us wasting draft picks on QBs who have a notoriously low success rate in this league when we already have a capable QB. I think that's what I struggle to "get" the most. We go heavy on defense in the draft. Try to get some oline depth and just throw trucks of money on a few FAs and we should be in good shape, roster wise. Would help if we had a Defensive Coordinator.

I think it depends on how Minshew finishes this season, where we are drafting, and who our new GM is. You comment highlights why we need to replace Caldwell immediately after the season. Does anyone think it is a good idea to keep DC on a lame duck contract going into a draft with 2 first rounders and an off-season with a ton of cap space that would tie us to his aging free agents for 3 years? And if we go 5-11 again in 2021, then we blow it up with a bunch of bad contracts and 2 first round picks left over from DC? 2021 is a critical off-season for this franchise and a great opportunity with our Draft picks and cap space. It can't be entrusted to a man on a one-year contract and a history of failure.

If we are in a top 5 pick because of our record, it’s not just defense; Minshew isn’t the guy either. The Bengals game was a winnable game if we scored more touchdowns and less field goals. Our defense, while not good, did get a few stops and a turnover. I don’t expect perfection from Minshew, but I expect composure.

Even if it were true, Jags fans would be entitled to be the worst, given the W-L record of the franchise over the last decade and ineptitude of the decision-makers. Despite that, I think Jags fans have been tremendously patient and supportive. But I admit, I would be done with this franchise after this season if they continue down this same leadership path.
