He only had that sack because he was completely unblocked and had a straight, unimpeded line to the passer. My fat a** would've made that play. Just sayin'. I would be stunned if the hit rate for early rounders that "elite production guys" is actually that much higher than guys who just flashed talent in college but need to develop.
Taven and Chaisson are later first round picks than we usually get so on one hand I think people should adjust their expectations a bit.
On the other hand they haven't been that good and obviously there's more tape on Taven. But, who's to blame if two first rounders drafted based on talent don't develop? Taven/(Chaisson) because he's just a rotational guy or Wash/D-line coach for not developing? Or both? Biggest strike against Dave might be overvaluing position of need above talent or value at the spot we're drafting. It started with Joeckel, and has carried through with every first rounder barring Josh Allen. It seems like we often pigeon-hole ourselves to taking best (or best upside) at position X instead of just best or best upside when our pick comes due. That strategy can work, but it's on the coaches to either add skill to raw talent or scheme in a way to maximize their talent. Here's hoping Chiasson has time to grow into a top talent, and that the team brings coaches in who can help that happen. We show less advertisements to registered users. If the expectations are too high, it's because the front office and coaching staff let go of good players and replaced them with these rookies. The expectations will always be higher when you get rid of better players. We expect at least some kind of flashes early in the season to justify replacing good players with inexperienced players. So far, there haven't even been flashes with Chaisson.
When first rounder after first rounder underperform.... maybe it’s not the players...maybe is the coaches?
I feel like these players would shine some where else where their transition to the NFL would be easier.

Expectations are too high? More than one winning season in a decade is too high? Hoping we get to 7-9 this season is too high? Carolina started rebuild mode in the spring and is already light years ahead of us. Your comment is ridiculous.
This is a results-oriented business. There are no trophies or titles given for "moral victories" or for "winning the draft". Our record with DC is 37-86. 6-10 is our 2nd best season in 8 years of Caldwell leadership. These are the FACTS.

The biggest problem is the DC forces players into his scheme instead of putting the players in the best position possible to be successful. If you don't have the talents to run the scheme, you have to change but the Jags refuse to do it.

I'd love to hear it.

They wanted him to play end in a 4-3 end when they drafted him but he would be much better in a 3-4 end than a 4-3 end. Chaisson and Allen are better at 3-4 OLB. Its worth a try being what we are doing isn't working

But I don't think it would matter much in terms of results. They would still probably rush 4 out of it, then you'd be dropping your Will LB from a tougher place into coverage. And you'd probably drop Allen more (assuming he is playing Rush OLB) into coverage so they wouldn't always know who is coming... I'm not crazy about that. I don't hate that idea, but: a) I don't think it changes our effectiveness significantly because we do not have a nose tackle that could demand a double team; and b) most defenses in this League are not in their base defense much anyway because of how much 11 personnel offenses play.

I'd love to hear it. For the first time, I have to say, we are better equipped now to play 3-4, than we are to play 4-3. This lineup sucks as a 4-3 scheme. Put Bryan and Gotsis on as 5 techniques, Hamilton as NT, Allen and Chaisson as OLB's, Schobert and Jack as ILB's and I guess we'd have to leave the secondary the same. That's the only thing that sucks. At least I think we'd get a little pressure. We should blitz more as well.
Lol, Wash don't change.
