Josiah Scott and Chris Claybrooks?
|
So I haven't kept up this year as much as some of you all probably have so I was hoping you could solve a question I had?
I know Chris Claybrooks has been playing a lot more at CB than Josiah Scott has. I'm just curious, why? If Chris Claybrooks was a 7th round pick and Josiah Scott was a 4th round pick....One would assume Josiah Scott would be further up the depth chart than Claybrooks based off draft positioning. Did Claybrooks just fall further in the draft than he should have or was Scott selected too high? It's something I've been wondering all season. This isn't being sarcastic, just legit confused. I hope you all are doing well and Happy early Thanksgiving to everyone. Thanks all! We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Scott started the season injured and his role at nickel makes him 3rd there after Hayden and Herndon. So he's behind and buried on the depth chart right now.

Herndon is more of a FS than a CB. He’s lined up at safety a lot but low key doesn’t get talked about.
Not sure why Claybrooks is still on the team. He has been lost in special teams, even on coverage. I guess they think he has something at CB to keep him, but I don't see what they see.

Claybrooks was a JUCO wideout before he transferred to Memphis. He converted to CB, his first time playing that position, his first year at Memphis in 2018. He was a very good return specialist, which is primarily why he was drafted. However, his reported 4.25 40yd time makes him an ideal development guy at CB. He is very raw in the secondary, but could be worth the effort with patience.
Whatever the skill set of the coaches on the NFL level I'm reasonably confident that they are better talent evaluators than random forum members. Yes, I know that's a strange take but there it is. They also see these guys practice.
Nothing about anyone in this thread but for some of the players near the end of the roster(or just outside) I see repeated posts about how good they are. It sounds like someone is a bit too heavily invested in these scrubs... So to clarify: Claybrooks>Scott and Barcoo Wingard> JR Reed. Unless someone is actually watching practice I don't take other opinions seriously. Obviously different if Claybrooks or Wingard started instead of a NFL-level starter but they don't. Just imagine then how bad Scott and Barcoo are when Claybrooks is ahead of them.
