It has the opportunity (if done right) to alter the course of the franchise and city.
Denver with Elway, Indy with Manning and Luck and possibly Burrow with Cincinnati. All small markets but appear relatively big because of their QB and the success they had. Bullseye said it best a few days ago but the buzz around the city would be enormous. The media exposure, the tickets sales, the game day experience.... it can all change in 2 weeks. Now will the team still have work to do? No doubt about it. OLine. TE. Defense. All need work. But hitting on a franchise QB has been and always will be the biggest piece to the puzzle. But now that we have the #1 pick with a guy like Lawrence right there... Well I don't want to see the players give up, I don't want the coaches to purposefully tank but I'm okay with us losing the last two. In your opinion... There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Can you name 1 thing Wilson has over Lawrence? There isn't any, from traits, to experience, to wins. You dont think so? Not just by me, by most that keep up with football and watch college football. By almost all analysts. He didn't just come out of nowhere, he has been the chosen one since High School, won the championship as a freshman, made it to the championship game last year, gonna make it again this year. I don’t think you can call yourself a Jaguar fan and not want them to lose the next 2. Simple as that...no ifs ands or butts..

I’ve been a fan since this team was announced in 93... but I don’t care anymore. If we don’t turn this org around- it’s not going to be a Jacksonville team anymore long term. We need success, in Jacksonville. We are so so long overdue.
Perfect scenario would be for us to lose this weekend and the Jets to beat the Browns. Then week 17 we can go all out and beat the Colts to close the season

Robinson likely won't play due to injury so I put him on IR. I also put Norwell, Linder, Chark, Minshew, Shenault, Cole, Johnson and Jack all on IR with varying injuries. I start Luton with a bunch of backups. This won't look suspicious, will it?

This would be a dream scenario, because also oddly Marrone is 5-2 against the Colts since he took over HC. By far his best record against any opponent. INCLUDING, our only win this year. Debatably the worst coaching in league history. I think it’s pretty understandable why everybody wants to lose out, and change the culture. We show less advertisements to registered users. We need success, in Jacksonville. I really don't understand your logic here. You question everyone else's fandom for wanting to lose the last two games? You do realize that by losing the last two, we could change the trajectory of this team for the next decade, maybe longer? We simply want a brighter future for this team. Something to actually look forward to, which is something we haven't had in many, many years. You may not believe in Lawrence as much as the rest of us, but there is no denying that nearly every scout, coach and sports analyst in the country is saying Lawrence is as close to a can't miss prospect as there is. Isn't having a chance to draft such a player better than getting 2 completely meaningless wins that people will completely forget about? What's the difference between 1 win and 2 or 3. We suck either way. Staying at 1 win gives us a chance to see a way out of the constant losing. Just look at the Jets. I've seen videos where people are calling the Jets win over the Rams, "the worst moment in Jets history." A win in our last two games, combined with a pair of Jets losses, would be looked upon in the same way by 99.5% of our fans. We simply wanna see some light at the end of the tunnel. We need some hope, because without that #1 pick, the majority of Jaguars' fans are completely without hope for our future. How is that a bad thing? How can you question people's fandom when they only want a chance at a brighter future for the franchise? I don't get it. I still wanna know how you would turn this team into a winner by having the #2 pick. What would you do in that case? Who would you select? This is the understatement of the century. The #1 pick has changed the fortunes of many teams over the last 2-3 decades, when it comes to taking a QB. Especially when there is a "special QB" that every QB needy team is gunning for. (12-22-2020, 02:08 PM)TheO-LineMatters Wrote:I don’t care who the top prospect is in any given year. Now obviously you have to draft well and have good coaches but if my choice is to have 5 wins or the #1 pick, it’s #1 pick every single time. That’s me as a fan of the Jags. In my rec league, win every dang time but there’s no prize for being the worst team there. There is however a prize for being the worst team in the NFL and that’s the ability to take the best player in the country.
If you don't want the Jags to do whatever necessary this season to secure the #1 pick then you are being short-sighted. This is a pivotal year for the franchise and there just so happens to be the highest rated QB prospect maybe ever entering the draft.
We have lost 13 games this season. We are not playing for anything other than draft position. If you cant see that and ROOT for 2 more losses then you are missing the bigger picture regarding the state of our franchise. We show less advertisements to registered users. All it takes is report of one "positive" test on saturday, and with the 10 day Covid-19 IR protocol it will hold out any players (aka everyone who can win the game for us) through the end of week 17 essentially sealing the top pick.
Championship Formula:
1) Draft Trevor Lawrence! 2) Play good physical Defense! 3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy! 4) ??? 5) Blank #2 6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
Playing for the #1 pick is simply playing the game by the rules as they're written. If your mantra is "play to win", how better to accomplish that for years in the future than by using the next two games as opportunities to develop and test out players who are currently second stringers, and draft the centerpiece for a revitalized franchise at #1? We get the widely accepted best player in the draft,, who will be an added enticement for new GM candidates and a new Head Coach, better potential for prime time or national broadcasts . . . throw in all the other draft picks we have and the cap room we can use for free agents . . . . yeah, I say play to win and lose the next two games.

I have listened to a lot of podcasts to hear the reaction to the Jets win so forgive me if I am wrong, but I believe it was on the Schefter podcast he said Lawrence to the Jags would be worth over a billion dollars economically to the Jags. I don't know how they quantified it, but I agree the huge boon to the city is an overlooked important aspect to losing these next two games as well. |
