I told you guys he ran that horrible 4-3 hybrid at Ohio State. What's with the Jaguars and their fascination with that terrible scheme? If that is indeed the case, we're gonna need a big 5 technique type to play on the end opposite Allen and Chaisson would then likely move to Linebacker.

So tired of the bend-but-dont-break defenses we have used...

Primarily because our defenses always break.

The best defense is a better offense in today's NFL.

It can get worse: he can draft someone other than Trevor with the first pick. I'm beginning to think Shad is susceptible to a strong sales pitch by an alpha personality. Tom Coughlin, now Urban. He needs a handler to keep these types away lest he hand them the keys to his Ferrari.

We all know Meyer likes speed on defense..

There's literally a video of Meyer explaining how much he loves a 34 defense, especially against a spread offense.

At the very least I'd expect whoever the DC is, to implement that a bit. Plus, literally anyone would be better than Wash anyway.

I'd like to try and get JJ Watt

Oh yeah, he's not the player he once was but he would be a massive help to our d line.

I'm 100% sure he'll only go to Packers, Steelers or Bears though. Maybe maybe the Chiefs if he's chasing a superbowl title.

That's not true. Both times Meyer's OSU teams lost to Clemson in Bowl games in 2013 and 2016, they were the much slower team. They relied on power and execution. Just look at OSU DB's that went to the NFL. A few were fairly fast, but as a whole, they were pretty average in the speed department. The same goes for D-Linemen. What I have liked is that he values powerful O-Linemen with good footwork. That should help us a lot.

The Seattle/Carroll defense can obviously work very well when coached properly and outfitted with a front 4 that pressures consistently.  And coverages can obviously be implemented far better than what we've seen from Wash.
Saleh's work in SF is the most recent good example.

I just pray that whatever scheme the new look Jags run in 2021 we don't see so much "keep everything in front of you" zone coverage.  Conceding everything "underneath" and getting worked over by every swing pass and screen play has become infuriating for me to watch.

It can work well if you have an extremely fast and well tackling back 7 like the Colts do. If you can keep everything in front of you and keep every play to short yardage the odds that a team is going to string together a double digit play drive without some kind of drive stalling penalty or sack or drop or whatnot is slim.

The Jags problem has been that they let that 3 yard pass turn into a 20 yard gain cause they miss the tackle or take a wrong angle or something like that.

Having crap safeties and a rotating cast of subpar or misplaced linebackers has long been an issue that contributes to these woes.

Nonetheless - Identifying/diagnosing these plays and reacting to them better also falls to coaching.
When the same issues plague you for multiple seasons despite roster changes, something is broken at the top.

How many screen plays have we seen convert 3rd and long against our defense?  It's sickening.

Anyway, yeah, I'd give a pinky finger for a stud safety on this team and a MLB that can read and react at an elite level. But until then, I'd at least like to see the players we do have be put in better position to have a chance at success.
