What does this say about the staff's opinion of Robinson or for that matter, Hyde whom they just re-signed? I'm still scratching my head over the Hyde signing. He didn't do anything when he was here the first time. He's nothing special. ![]() Fix the O-Line!

This is purely based on YouTube highlights but he seems to have had a lot of room for his runs in college, untouched and big holes.

Etienne caught a lot of screen passes from TL. I think he'll catch a lot of passes for us. Throwing to the RB is a great way to get the ball out of the QB's hand quickly and avoid punishment. He'll be like Christian McCaffrey.
This guy is an exciting running back. I'm not sure what this does to Robinson though. We are loaded at rb. I'm hoping this rookie could be like a fred taylor with all that speed he has. I would say it's time to draft a lot of defense now and maybe a line man.
Lol, if there's one thing you want to be able to say about your 1-15 team with more holes than Swiss cheese it's that they're loaded at RB. /sarcasm

Although I thought he might be available at 33, when Najee Harris went off the board, there was a good chance Etienne would also go in the first round. We need more than one starting quality running back, and Carlos Hyde isn't it. Etienne is a very dynamic running back who can score on any play. In addition, he's a tried and true weapon for TL. I see him as another Christian McCaffrey. Najee is a bellcow back, though. Is Etienne going to be a 3-down back? If we were just looking for a change of pace, those guys can be had WAY later in the darft. I hope this pick doesn't end up biting us in the rear, but I have a feeling it will be more defining of this regime than the TLaw pick. Same reason we gave Timmah a tryout at a position he's never played and hired an S&C coach who was let go with cause from his last job.

All we needed was a complimentary back with speed and hands and those guys could be had later in the draft. This was a reach pick for us. We show less advertisements to registered users. You're not taking into account that Etienne needs to get to the corner to get in the clear and make long runs. Our OT's are terrible run blockers. Robinson found success, because he ran in between the Tackles and utilized the interior which is undoubtedly the strength of the O-Line.
From Frank Schwab, draft winners and losers:
Teams unnecessarily taking running backs: Running backs do matter. But they can be found later in the draft. Sometimes after the draft. The Jaguars know this. Last year they got James Robinson as an undrafted free agent, and he had 1,414 yards from scrimmage. He was a good NFL starter. And the Jaguars, who went 1-15 last season and have many needs, took a running back 25th overall. Clemson running back Travis Etienne is a very good player, but was that the best way for the Jaguars to use their draft resources? ![]()

Meyer wanted speed. He had said that many times. Etienne brings speed. A lot of it. Plus he is Trevor's boy. Super, extra bonus. Gotta keep Trevor happy and Etienne will do that. I was shocked with the pick but I love the player so I won't be mad at the pick.
Every guy we wanted at #25 will still be around with our first pick in the second. I also like that TLaw and ETN are reunited. Makes TLaw's transition to Jax much easier.

Since 2005, here is a breakdown of the RBs taken in the first round who became 1,000 yard rushers: RD 1 - 55% 15/27 RD 2 - 29% 11/38 RD 3 - 16% 6/37 RD 4 - 7% 3/45 RD 5 - 7% 3/42 RD 6 - 4% 2/46 RD 7 - 2% 1/51 Case closed! Sure, you can find a RB in the later rounds, just like you can find a QB in the later rounds (Tom Brady), but like any other position, you'll have the best result if you try to pick the best one. That thinking only works if Moe, Barimore and Jenkins are all available through the first pick of round 3, so we can get all the guys we SHOULD have picked before Etienne. Otherwise, we missed on a more needed player for the sake of taking a RB we didn't need. By picking a RB we made our round 3 or 4 pick in round 1. What a waste. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
If anything were to happen to Robinson, playaction is done and Lawrence is throwing 50+ times a game with defenses knowing it's coming

RBs taken in round 1 are generally very good.
WHO's idea was it to pick a RB in the first round? Stupid, stupid, stupid. oh wait, STUPID!
