Travis Etienne - Rd1, Pick 25

I was checking out the highlights of number nine on Clemson, and frankly he reminded me of Matt Jones. Can run away from people if he has space initially, but not much going for him otherwise. He has long strider speed and I don't think it will translate.

I don't watch college football, either, but my beef with the pick is about value, not need. Running backs are rarely first round value in 2021. I don't think this guy is going to be Fred Taylor level of ability, so I don't see him as offering good value.

Guys rushing for 1000+ yards doesn't seem to have a strong correlation with their team succeeding, so I'm not sure what the tweet that keeps getting kicked around is being touted for, but if someone has math that says otherwise feel free to present it.

Etienne is a RB/WR hybrid. At least it is obvious that is how Urbs plans on using him. I am a big Etienne fan. Did I want someone else at 25? Sure. Am I upset we drafted Etienne? Absolutely not.

1000 yards in 17 games is nuthin. That's 58 yards a game.
1000 in 16 games is 62 yards per game.

It's a fake barometer.

I have to laugh. All of you wanna be GM’s that love the player but hate the value but the player you wanted is still available and the Jags are on the clock.

Fournette was a major factor in the superbowl last year.  RB's are still valuable despite the bs notion they should only be drafted later!

Also don't remind that them that 7 other teams after the Jags 25th pick also passed on those players!  I think Barmore is Haynesworth Jr.

Yeah in the past we definitely would have passed on Etienne and drafted an average OL or DL. Then a team like Cleveland who already has Chubb would've drafted him...and be averaging 300 yds per game and 14-2 record.

What star did we miss cause we had Bortles?
What star did we miss because we had ________?

But the Jaguars have one less pick with which to take those guys.

- 102 rec, 1155 rec yards, 11.3 avg, 8 rec TDs

I'd be pulling for him too.

So you are saying that 7.2 yards per attempt is good?  Lol

I hope you are being sarcastic but it's most likely more of you being a downright idiot so I suggest you look up some of the BEST rushing ypa.

7.2 yards rushing/attempt is INSANE. Just to break it down even further so it could perhaps click for you: On average, Etienne is netting you a first down every 1.4 carries (lets round up to 2 carries).

My thoughts as well. I had questions because I sort of sold myself on Moehrig. Then the 1st round ended and he is still there and we still have two picks over the next 15... oh yeah and... WE ARE ON THE CLOCK. Lmao

LOL I hope he is kidding too.

7.2ypc on an average length career would probably get you a first ballot Hall of Fame.   I think Taylor's career average is 4.6.

Lord help us if the pick at 33 isn't [insert guy here] that the board experts know for sure will be the next HOF'er

I think we need to get over the "RB" designation, and consider the player. Back in the day, I thought Fred Taylor wasn't great value in the 3rd round. Man, I was wrong.

But the best reason this pick will stand is, as many noted, that the pool of players most of looked to get at 25 will still be there at 33 tonight. Etienne wouldn't have been. If we want to make ourselves feel better after we pick Jenkins or whoever, let's just pretend that the picks were in opposite order.

Holy crap, whatever happened to the "Etienne will be special" crowd? I swore I saw some of them around here leading up to the draft.

But the “EERRR MAH GAWD I KNEW URBAN MYERS SUCKEDED ALL ALONG” crowd came out in full force.

No dramas, we've not lost out on anyone because of it and it'll help Lawrence settle in.

Great player, terrible value for the role he will be playing. Other real positions of need will suffer, because we took a RB so early.

It's a weird pick in that how it's received will depend upon how subsequent picks-specifically Little-pan out.

If Little becomes a starter at a T spot this year, lots of the angst against the Etienne pick goes away, because then the whole needs were not addressed thing is diminished.

But if Little never amounts to a quality starter, then the antipathy towards Etienne persists, if not grows.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!
