Ultimately, I think he'll prove to be a tremendous asset in the secondary.

If I had to rank all time Jaguars safeties...

1.  DD
2.  Deon Grant
3.  Gipson
4.  Carnell Lake
5.  Reggie Nelson

If a Safety had a combination of Reggie Nelson's ball skills and everything other than ball skills that DD provided, the end result would very likely be a many time 1st Team All Pro Safety.

Nelson could be fooled though.  Manning would toy with him.  If yu could combine his range and leaping ability with DD's film study, size, physicality, yes, you would have an all pro.

Nelson became a good player after he left though, better than Grant and Gipson.

Absolutely he did, which makes me wonder what the hell happened here. Did JDR simply give up on him too soon?  Did Nelson simply need a change?  Did he get better coaching in Cincinnati under Marvin lewis than he did under JDR?

It's my understanding that Nelson wasn't the brightest bulb in the box.  They probably just simplified things a bit.

I heard that too, which begs the question why not simplify things here if it'll make him a better player?

Been seeing guys get over-coached for years, and all it does is slow them down.  That's one reason I like a lot of what Meyer has been saying.  He doesn't want his players over-thinking things on the field so they can play faster.

They let him freelance a whole lot more. IIRC we were forcing a lot of cover 2/zone stuff and he just didn't take to that scheme.

I'd keep it exactly how we have it..I think they did a great job in the draft with everything they wanted..They went in knowing what, who, where they were looking for..I love the ETN pick..Can't understate that one..I love what they did with who they could get..

Welcome back.

I don't "love" the draft yet.

Of course, drafting Trevor Lawrence gets me a long long way towards loving it.  But aside fro, him, the Walker Little pick will determine if I LOVE this draft.

Though the picks at 25 and 33 were largely unexpected, I think both players can make the team better.  I really like the Cisco pick.

But if Little can upgrade one of the T positions this year, whether Left or Right, that will take this draft to another level.  Aside from Lawrence, Little is the key to this draft.

I'll say this much... Urban has been planning this for a while.. He made this account back in 08. That's some foresight.

As you will every year. I have no problem standing by my selections. You can look back on my posts after last year's draft. We were discussing draft grades and I said I would have taken.....

#9 Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa
#20 Justin Jefferson, WR, LSU
#42 Jaylon Johnson, CB, Utah
#73 DaVon Hamilton, DT, Ohio State

I thought it would be fun to revisit our draft "re-do"'s.  My draft is a little hard to evaluate because of two major injuries.  However, I largely still like it.  Besides a franchise quarterback, we would have gotten quality starters at safety (Moehrig), tight end (Freiermuth) and guard (Trey Smith).  It's still largley unknown since he spent most of the year injured, but I would be excited to have Teven Jenkins right now.  We also don't know about Ossai since he was injured all year, but I thought he was excellent value and you can never have too much pass rush.  While we wouldn't have ETN, we would have a speedy running back in Gainwell.  Cox and Nixon have done less than I imagined, but we also got almost zero production out of Meyer/Baalke's day 3 draft selections.  The one thing I didn't go after was cornerback.  I didn't realize the extent of Henderson's mental problems at the time.  However, I still overall mostly like my picks.

The tape on his last two games looks better than any two games  from Cam in 2021.

He DID beat him. There's just not an offseason depth chart for you to refer to.

In all likelihood, he probably was better than Cam but again, incompetent coaching. Cisco was worlds better than Dewey.

Every player I provided with the exception of Lawrence played on better football teams (some in the play offs), produced, or, was a wash at a similar position that had the same pedigree coming out of college at a later RD selection wise.

Virtually every player would have started or had some level of competence in areas of need on this team. Granted, this coaching staff sucks and you would need to trust them to do the right thing.

Show your redo.
