This is exactly what I do. I carry a Big Skinny wallet now with nothing but the essential cards. Although lately it’s been thicker than usual because of some recent, um, cash transactions. 

I’ve never had any problem remembering my SSN. Then again, in the military it’s your second name.

I try to carry just my essential cards. It's just that I have like 25 of them and I need them all. I don't wanna be unprepared.
