Some positives from last night's game.

#21

I almost agree that the run defense was a bright spot, but it's impossible to say with Kamara out and whoever Tony Jones is was getting the first team work. Much like we thought the secondary looked good after preseason game 1 with Weeden throwing and Donovan Peoples-Jones being WR1 and then we got a mega wake up call, I worry that we might get a wake up call whenever Chubb, Hunt, and Kamara aren't sitting out.

I am optimistic because I do think Hamilton and Brown are forces against the run, but I am not sure about the rest of the front 7.

I had some questions about Lawrence when we drafted him but he has since convinced me that he can be a franchise QB. No, he's probably not going to be the "generational talent" some people where propping him up to be but he does have a pretty remarkable arm and seems to be learning quickly. He's also way more mobile than I expected.

So before labeling him a bust 9 preseason series' into his career, consider he's coming into the worst franchise, talent-wise in the league with a line that is one of the worst at pass protection I've ever seen. And that line was down 3 starters last night. He's going to make mistakes, especially with the pressure he's facing.

The inability or unwillingness to address the biggest weakness (OL) on a team filled with weaknesses is a knock on Meyer and Baalke, not the kid from Clemson.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

And why did they retain the OL line coach?

Tony Jones was getting chunks of yards, but he was out of the game even before Winston.  Hard to know if the defense would have tightened up or if Jones would have continued to gash them if he stayed in.
But yeah, the defense has been great at stopping 3rd and 4th string running backs so far.

Everything is up in the air with backup Olinemen, chark out, Hyde is here again and I don't know why, and it's preseason playcalling. Defense is OK without Allen and needing Campbell to stay on the bench till he learns to look for the ball. Shaq got pushed off with no flag so I'm not tripping about that. Work in progress but at least we won't be 1 and 15 well 16 again

Next year, we need to just draft offensive linemen. Round 1? Oline. Round 2? OLine. Round 3? Oline. Round 4? You guessed it, Oline. Round 5? Also O-line. Round 6? Sure you can take a WR---NOT! Take O-line again. Round 7 - Oline.

Okay, maybe that's an overreaction. Maybe.

UM has train wreck potential. He fits right in with this poorly run franchise. Good thing they got that TBow jersey cash. Jeez this franchise.

The good news, it isn't game 1 yet.
Birth of the Franchise - November 30, 1993
Death of the Franchise - November 29, 2011

Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.

No lie, there's a good chuck of us who have been saying this for like.. past 4-5 offseasons. However, I am happy we got TLAW and very happy with how he looks. It's an O league now, I really don't care about the defense at all until I know our franchise QB is taken care of. Then we can build the defense looking to make the playoffs. Until then, just draft O line. IDC what receivers are there. Don't care what TE's, RB's, etc.. Get PROTECTION!

What are your thoughts on Trevor so far?

Neutral. He's in by far the worst situation of the rookie QBs so it's not shocking that he has looked a little overwhelmed so far. He's shown some franchise QB flashes and shown some rookie mistakes. Not worried about him.

Peyton Manning 26 TDs and 28 Ints in Season 1.

If there were a redraft, I'd have to assume you'd take a hard pass on Peyton Manning.

Troy Aikman
1989 - 9 TDs, 18 interceptions - record: 1-15
1990 - 11 TDs,  18 interceptions - record: 7-9

I'm not worried about Trevor, other than my concerns about him staying healthy without a decent line to protect him. I'm just really frustrated that Meyer and Baalke didn't do more to improve things with the line in free agency and the draft. We had the cap room, we had the draft picks . . . and we've got a star quarterback who is scrambling for his life in preseason games.

Positive: CJ Henderson logged 31 snaps last night. Didn't hear his name much (which is good for a CB). Something positive...

Really?  I was wondering if he even played.  I did turn off the game a few minutes before halftime though, so I'm guessing he was in a lot during the 2nd half?

They didn’t throw to him too much. Winston knew who to pick on
