Impressions From The Saints Game

#41

So what I'm getting out of everyone's reaction, is that I should bet on the Houston Texans for game 1 before the line moves.

2017 AFCCG, coaches turtling as hell and letting Tawmy steal what should have been an easy  win.
41-0 to the Seahawks on the road, I've never seen a team lay a more listless egg.
2004 AFC Divisional playoff, bench the hot hand for a statue and leave a broken RT in place, sure, no reason why one of the best pass rushers of the day shouldn't be in the backfield all day.
practically every game with Blaine Gabbert under center.

Those hurt.

This preseason game did not hurt AT. ALL. At this point, we should all be numb.

no, we've already said it's foolish to bet on preseason games

(I know when this game happens, but dang if it won't confuse the heck out of us fans)

Jordan Smith tied for the team lead in the game with 4 tackles.  He stopped running backs on 2 carries before the line of scrimmage and the other 2 were for minimal 3 yard gains.  Considering he was a day three draft pick and the only Jaguars draft pick not to come from a Power 5 conference, I think he was one of the few rookies to exceed expectations on Monday.

I didn't record the game, but my recollection is that Camp had clearly beat the defensive back on one play and would have gone for a long touchdown if Minshew didn't completely misthrow the ball (and assuming Camp catches it).  I wonder if we would be talking about Camp in a different light today if Minshew had made a better throw.

That being said, my recollection is also that Minshew was later on target on a short pass to Camp and Camp just dropped it, so who knows?

I went back and rewatched every throw Lawrence made. The issue on offense is as clear as day..... This team is devoid of talent at the OT position. Cam Robinson is the only nfl caliber starter we have at either tackle spot. Jawaan Taylor was getting beat consistently and had a general lack of awareness imho. Walker Little looked overwhelmed, giving up the inside gap a few times and getting bull rushed and overpowered on a ton of other snaps. Jawaan Taylor may need to move to Guard because he just does not look comfortable playing in space, starting to see now why he fell to the 2nd round that draft. Little needs experience and another offseason in the weightroom/strength and conditioning program.

Surprisingly the guards played well, Bartch looked solid, and Cann didn't have any mishaps that I noted. Barely noticed or paid attention to Shatley.

Lawrence when given time to throw was money. He's gonna be good just needs to get experience and have the game slow down for him. MJJ and Laviska looked fine, but the passing game is clearly missing a dimension with Chark out and it appeared to shrink the field and make things easier on the Saints Defense.

I think OT is the biggest need we should address next offseason.
Championship Formula:

1) Draft Trevor Lawrence!
2) Play good physical Defense!
3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy!
4) ???
5) Blank #2
6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Cullen just said Taven did a good job last week... If he continues to improve they'll find a place for him on the roster.

He also said the safeties are a strong group.
