Who was it, Denny Thompson of The Sports Den? Said he has seen the offensive playbook and what we have seen in the preseason is nowhere near what we are going to see in the regular season. We have seen a very, very vanilla offense in the 2 games so far. Design> Or lack of execution? We shall see. As to the defense, I think Cullen has sandbagged it some as well. For some reason it seems they are trying to keep from showing their hand. before the season starts so I expect the same vanilla offense and the same defense with the DB's not covering as tight in man to man as they will when the season starts. JMO Both coordinators have blatantly said they aren't putting the good stuff on tape in preseason and Meyer said in a presser they (his coordinators) wouldn't let him run some things he wanted to run. Call me crazy, but I think they are telling the truth on this one. We'll see more in September. Pre-week-3 will be more vanilla calls and coverages.

JMO Agreed but having said all of this, if we were truly good then even a vanilla offense would do more than we have shown so far so Tlaws comment just after yours has much merit as well. In a vacuum that doesn't factor talent vs scheme and percentage of starters missing in preseason - maybe that's true. That vacuum doesn't exist, so we'll just have to wait and see how effective our actual starters are while running the full playbook. I've seen teams with a wealth of talent go 0-4 or 1-3 in the preseason plenty of times. It has taught me not to get too carried away with August evaluation. JMO One thing that all reporters have said about Meyer since he has been here is that he has been very transparent. He isn't trying to be coy and play games. I expect them to open up some but I do not nearly as much as we will see in week 1.
