The one thing telling is that no player is coming forward to defend their coach.

Social media and the MSM have blown it so out of proportion. I tend to agree. I get that Urban is a polarizing figure and a lot of people already hate him so no matter what he does is going to bring about a completely disproportionate response. But the insane level of outrage and moral posturing is so over the top. At the end of the day he had a few too many drinks at the bar and got frisky with some hot blonde girl. Great husband? No. But worthy of all this moral outrage? Please. Everyone on this board and in the media whining about how terrible of a human being he is for flirting with some chick at the bar would give up their left nut to have Bill Belicheck or Sean Payton coach this team. Two guys who have actually cheated on their wives and forced to get divorced. The same people would love to have a guy like Tyreek Hill on this team who beat the crap out of his pregnant girlfriend. And dont forget our beloved Jalen Ramsey who dumped his pregnant girlfriend. All of these are worse than flirting with a chick at the bar. But no one would have a problem with those guys either on the team or coaching the team. This isn't about morality at all (cuz that doesnt exist in the NFL when wins are on the line). It's just about not liking Urban. Lots of people hate him and it's an easy shot to take right now. I don't get the outrage over not flying home either. All offseason all we heard about is Urban being in over his head because he is a college coach and is a rah-rah guy and how none of that would play in the NFL. These are grown men that play for money, they aren't playing for school spirit. But now all of a sudden these grown men can't handle a 2 hour plane ride back after a loss because they are feeling bad and need their coach to make them feel better? That seems so weak. And if he had stuck around and the only photos that came out were of him hugging his grandkids, the implication is it would still be outrageous cuz the team needed him? That is so dumb. Maybe the guy ends up losing the locker room over this. If so would make me think we have a lot of mentally weak players on the team but whatever. Either way if he loses the team, I guess you have to get rid of him. And then we can try to go after someone like Joe Brady. At the end of the day though the only thing that matters is winning. Even though we are 0-4, the team has dramatically improved with each week. If they start winning, none of this stuff will matter. And three months from now we'll look back at how stupid it is. But if he can't turn things around and the wins dont come (whether because he just isnt good enough at the NFL level or if our team of grown men playing for money can't play well for a guy that doesn't fly home with them), he's a goner regardless. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff.

While I agree with you that his private life is not our business, he got reckless, got himself caught on camera and made this team the butt of even more jokes. Let me ask you this, aren't you as a Jaguars fan, tired of being the laughing stock of the league? I am. If it's not our pathetic win/loss record, it's players wanting to jump ship or poor personnel moves or a variety of other football related issues. Now, because of Meyer, we've found a whole new way to embarrass this team, like it wasn't bad enough before this unnecessary scandal. Just once, can't this team do something right? Can't we go just one season without a major setback? I know if Meyer were my coach, I would've lost respect for him. Not because of what he did, but because he's a hypocrite and he made himself a distraction to the team. How can you just sweep this under the rug? The only time we get national media attention is when something goes off the rails with this team. Do you know Meyer? Are you friends or family with him? It sounds like you think this is just a speed bump and people will get over it, but this is not an isolated incident. It is just the latest in a long line of blunders ever since he got here. I don't think he will get fired, but I also don't think he wins the locker room over. Hopefully, this kind of distraction doesn't hinder Lawrence's development, but who knows? I can see why we can't get any premier free agents to come here though. We keep getting second rate guys, because this team is run so poorly. If I'm a "hater" because I was originally pulling for the guy ,but I've had to watch him fail at every turn since March, and now earn the distrust of his owner, staff and players, so be it. Call me a hater. Inaccurately lump me in with the folks that had severe bias from the outset.
I had optimism at one point. The dude has just let me down over, and over, and over, and over again in such a short window of time. He's clearly on thin ice with Khan, and regardless of me not really giving a flip about his moral compass being lost at sea, his actions have put any semblance of real leadership from him out of reach IMO. I think his owner is livid, his staff and his players have massively lost respect for him, and unfortunately he's done absolutely nothing heretofore that would make them consider re-aligning their mistrust. Just misstep after misstep. It would be a miracle if he rights this ship IMO. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
We were 1-15 last year. Jags got rid of mostly ALL their talent to get Lawrence. You are damn right it will be a miracle and buckle up butter cup.
I have been against him since they hired him. after hearing him say that it was not him who has to get the team ready for the titans but the players and vets have to own getting themselves ready, what they hell does he have to do. This bum need to go now tonight. what happens when the girl files a complaint against him or lawsuit anyone thought about what happens if that happens.

You say, buckle up butter cup, I say "open your eyes, fool." I'm not offended. I'm pissed. Pissed that this guy is such a [BLEEP] inept piece of [BLEEP]. That's not "buttercup" material, pal. I just see that he's got this whole thing sideways and he probably won't recover. He had every opportunity to go from that 1-15 team to something resembling an upward pointing arrow, and he completely [BLEEP] the bed. Sorry you can't smell it.

Khan is so wishy-washy and gives his front office so much leeway that I don't think he would fire Meyer, regardless of what he does outside of a violent, criminal action. I see Khan as being complacent. He thought he'd bring in one of the winningest college coaches of all time (who happened to be a personal friend) and everyone would be satisfied. He didn't care about Meyer's questionable character, total inexperience at the NFL level and and the fact that he needed a "yes man" (Baalke), because he wanted total control. I honestly believe Meyer and Khan's working relationship is as solid as it ever was. Until Khan does something to prove me wrong, I just don't think he cares. I wish he did, but his actions say otherwise. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! The players play the game. It will be on the players to win the games if they will this year. Coaches are doing the best but players have to make plays. I luv our players and believe in them. The team lost some that they could or should have won and now they can win some the could or should lose. Its ultimately on the players at this point. As far as the distraction, these players have been around the block. They aren't naive. They will play for their coach

Hiring Meyer was all Khan's doing. If he fires him for this, he's gonna have to admit he made a massive mistake. He's not gonna do that yet. He's gonna give Meyer a long time to turn things around and make him look like a genius. I don't see that ever happening though. I believe one day, Khan's gonna have to admit this was a bad hire. I just don't believe it will be anytime soon. (10-05-2021, 10:03 PM)Jag88 Wrote: The players play the game. It will be on the players to win the games if they will this year. Don't players have to trust their coaches and respect them enough to buy into the systems and game plans that the coaches implement? I certainly wouldn't trust a coach who was careless enough to make himself an unnecessary distraction and make our team look foolish. I'd be questioning almost everything he did. |
