Urban out and about

How exactly do you determine a coach has “lost the locker room”? Do players sulk on the sidelines, make faces and gestures behind his back and stand on the field with their arms defiantly crossed while the play unfolds around them? Do these professional athletes paid millions to compete intentionally lose to have an ‘I’ll show him!’ moment?

Or are you projecting your own dislike for Urban Meyer through fantasy?

Moot point anyway.  Gus had the locker room and look how that turned out.  So far Meyer has been a huge loser in the NFL.

Exactly, the team sucks anyway.

If this is how we look when he still has the locker room imagine how will we look when he loses it lol

I am a fan, not a cheerleader.

You know what, you are Right.  Urban is a true leader of men.  Players are buying in!   The team has lose 4 out of 5 games this season by more than one score.  What does that say about the coaching job?

I was all for giving Meyer his shot, but his shot is over. Time to move on.

Or the level of talent on the roster. Bad argument, I know. 1-15 teams are typically oozing talent.

5 games. There's some players who are progressing pretty nicely, the only thing not progressing is coaching and play calling.

I’m with you. If it was just the 0-5 start in a vacuum, it would be too soon. But it’s so much more than that

Let’s be honest, if it were an 0-5 start with any other coach, you’d be patient.

It's the play calling for me.. It's downright inexcusable and it's been that way on multiple occasions..

1&5 with 5 yards to a TD, you run your workhorse 4 times if you have to. That TD had JRob written all over it.. It's stupid calls like that and his off field antics that made me change my mind on him.

It’s personal with a lot of people, I get it. I was never into the Florida football rivalry so the Urban hate goes over my head.

I went into this season with the full expectation of a bad record. There’s just too many bad elements of this team to not expect so. It’s my belief that between the Meyer hate and the unrealistic expectations of what Lawrence could contribute, people are more bitter now than I’ve ever seen.

No not really. This is a loser franchise from the top down. We have a top RB and a potential home run QB and we watched the off season. They got cute and stupid every step of the way. I was lukewarm on the hire but come on.

What is really going to happen is we are setup for another disappointing rebuild where everyone washes out in 2 years.

Could this disaster be averted? I sure hope so but the mismanagement is strong everywhere.

The team looks better but we have 0 field goals, a bunch of missed extra points and we have done squat with the waiver wire. Gm and headcoach symbiot are laser focused on their guys. Too bad they suck so far.

You have got to get over this thought that we hate him because of his College coaching career.

We hate him because he's making the Jaguars worse and what's more we KNEW he would before he even was hired.

He's made mistake after mistake, gaffe after gaffe, and his arrogance is so apparent in his interviews it's disgusting. He's in over his head and he's too arrogant to notice.

Please stop with the allegations that we don't like him because of College. We don't like him because he is utterly incapable of understanding football at this level - from the people to the plays to even the nuances of free agency. He's a failure.

Not every other coach has had a litany and laundry list of bad decisions and negative publicity that he has.

Wilson has played arguably worse then Trevor, they don't have a strong RB with a high ceiling, and the Jets who have a rebuild project to ours in scope, won a game. Against those same Titans. Yes, we aren't a great roster, but most other coaches could at least have already delivered a win by now.

Yep; I barely follow college football (only UVA, for my dad). It's not what he did, its what he's doing now.

Gus Bradley was awful from day 1, yet I never saw this level of vitriol.

I did discover one thing, Urban Meyer elicits very strong emotion in people.

In hindsight, yes Gus was bad from day one.

Difference in why we gave him a chance? He didn't display numerous red flags in his first offseason such as hiring racist buddies, conjuring up a QB competition when there wasn't a logical reason for it, or bringing in his buddy to compete for the roster; he wasn't out grinding after team losses (or at least he didn't get caught) instead of flying back like 99.9 percent of head coaches do. He didn't admit in interviews his own incompetence (what's a waiver wire, I don't do the prep I delegate it, my QB isn't ready for a sneak even though he will tell you twenty minutes later); he also wasn't making the personnel decisions such as draft picks, so in the moment, that wasn't something that could be held against him, and had to be sorted out; i.e. during the first year of the rebuild, it was harder to differentiate bad coaching from bad drafting (we now know in that case it was both).

A lot? No. I went to Maryland so I have zero ill will towards Meyer. Was I skeptical? Sure. Any coach coming from college to the pros has an uphill battle but I was willing to give it a chance. Then came the Doyle hire. Then the draft (outside of Trevor). Then it's bringing in his best friend to play TE who clearly shouldn't have been on the field. Then it's the fake QB battle which took away valuable first team reps from Trevor and ultimately led to a poor week 1 performance (to me). Then it's the staying behind in Ohio to "clear his head" after only 4 games?! And to top it all off, he made the Jags a laughing stock again by getting all handsy with a college girl.

If you sell the soul of your franchise to some scumbag coach, they better be able to at least produce wins. If it wasn't for Trevor, this season would be a lost cause and it's not even Halloween.

Let me preface this by saying that I could be wrong on any one of these and if I am, I know I'll be corrected but:

Gus didn't break the off season rules resulting in losing multiple OTA practices next year along with a $100k fine for the Head Coach and a $200k fine for the team

Gus didn't fail to understand how free agency worked and the rules associated with it

Gus didn't hire an assistant coach who had been accused of racist and bullying methods

Gus didn't sign off on bringing in a former player who hadn't played in the league in over 8 years and had never played the position he was trying out for

Gus didn't split 1st team reps in training camp and the pre-season between a journeyman QB and someone who is widely considered to be a generational QB

Gus never failed to fly home with the team, let alone claim to be staying in another city to spend time with his grandchildren, only to be seen on video acting in a creepy and inappropriate manner with a college aged girl.  While I readily admit to never having been part of an NFL team or part of an NFL locker room, every single one of the ex players and ex coaches and current players that have talked about it, have stated unequivocally that not traveling home with the team is completely unheard of and it's just not done.

Then we get to the other Urban issues like:

Not having the team prepared to play on the 1st play of the 1st game of the season.

Failing at free agency - not getting anyone that was among their top targets, when we had more cap space then just about any other team

Not having your 6'6" QB ready and able to run a QB sneak 5 games into the season - even though that QB said he's comfortable with the play and would have been fine running it

Having a 1st and goal from the 5 yd line in what was the most important moment of the game, and was also the most important moment of the season to date - and not even having your best offensive player in the game.  Not even calling a running play until 4th and goal.  Not even knowing if your best offensive player was dinged up or not, not over-ruling the OC to say, "put our best player in the game" - you know, the one that was shredding the Titans all day long.....

Not having a kicker that can make a FG or an extra point.  Allowing Lambo to try to work his issues out on the field during games, and then activating another kicker that doesn't have an NFL leg.  It's not like he missed it wide right or left - it was short.  SHORT.  What NFL kicker in this day and age doesn't have the leg to hit a 52 yd FG?  I'd venture to say we  might be the only team with one.

Urban can't even answer questions post game about what happened - he constantly says he has to talk to Bevell or he has to ask Bevell about that.  Maybe he should be more involved so he actually knows what's going on during the games, and maybe even has some input?  Maybe he asks those questions sooner so he knows the answers?

First there were puffs of hazy smoke, then a steady slow discharge of darker, thicker smut. Then last weeks off field debacle got the embers straight up stoking. Any more negative oxygen hits this team it's going to be a inferno.

Maybe it's homebiscuit who is hung up on his college career. As if succeeding there has anything to do with the NFL, ESPECIALLY when he's a recruiter, NOT an X's and O's coach. And he cannot even recognize NFL talent

The team just has to win. This has been so close yet no cigar. It would be nice to not have the refs make it that much harder but the jags will just have to overcome that too.
