Alualu now the only player left on the roster from the 2007-2010 drafts

Quote:The title of this thread is exactly why we were 4-12.  Glad to see things seem to e brighter today then a few years ago.

Tommy's quote "He was drafted way too high by one of the worst GMs in NFL history" is so true and hilarious to boot!  Well played

IMO,  to the credit of Gus Bradley and his coaching staff,  the Jaguars 4-12 record was noticeably better than the talent on the roster reflected.   Especially when considering the injuries and the trade of Eugene Monroe.    Texans owner Bob McNair fired Gary Kubiak during the season in large part because the Jaguars beat the Texans twice,  despite the Texans having more talent on their roster.

Alualu is gone by the next regular season.

Dude sucks. Bad.

I'm surprised he has made it this long. He's hot garbage. I can't think of one play he's made during his tenure here.

I wouldn't care for Alualu if he was a 7th round selection. While i'm sure there have been more times he was in the backfield, the only one I can vividly remember is him absolutely whiffin on a juke that would have score a 5/10..I want to say it was Luck or Rodgers two seasons ago

id cut Alu, use the 5 mil. u save and sign Red Bryant. If we keep Alu he needs to come off the bench.

Quote:Though he had just 1.5 sacks, Alualu had a solid season as a run-stuffer (42 tackles). His position in Gus Bradley’s defense isn’t designed to produce a lot of sacks. That falls to what the Jaguars call a leo, which is a hybrid end/outside linebacker. That’s the spot that Babin and Branch manned.

I got confused I meant that he fits Gus scheme for DL at the moment.
Exactly.

Alualu sucks because of his run stuffing " ability ", I couldn't care less about sacks from his position.

Literally the only Jaguar to ever be praised for being completely ineffective.

Well, I'd throw Renaldo Wynn in that mix, too, but your larger point remains.

The team actually would not save anything by cutting him.

His salary is 3 million dollar. His cap hit would be 3 million dollars.

It's basically a zero sum game.

if he gets cut his base salary is what we save and the signing bonus would go against the cap. If we keep him ge makes over 4 mil. this year

I remember when people defended Harvey for run stuffing and Reggie Williams for run blocking...

Your post has nothing to do with Alualu. His job in Bradley's defense is to be a run stuffer, and he does it well. Harvey was a pass rusher.

They are two totally different situations.

Cutting him would put over 3 million of dead money on the cap, right? So the savings would be about 1 million it appears.

Alualu was strong enough to not be moved out entirely, but not big enough hold the point and pull down the ball carrier.

You can run right over him. Three chances...zero stops.

Just strictly this year, the savings is under 1 million if cut.

Is this that first Oklahoma that he supposedly had that mysterious knee injury that Vic used to say made his career so unremarkable?

Strange how he doesn't indicate injury at any point or even touch his knee the whole time.

I believe he was drafted to be a penetrating DT, not a run stuffer. You don't draft run stuffers with number 10 pick. And as someone else mentioned, he would be a disappointment if he was drafted in the 2nd.
