Theres no good reason on God's green earth that this team should avoid the QB position to the point where Henne is the full time starter next year by choice. 

 

I don't think the current regime wants to upgrade their interim QB.   I think they think that would be ultimately a waste of time.   I think what they want is the ultimate solution- the guy.   I don't think they want to waste their time with minor upgrades to the position of "temporary caretaker QB."  

 

There are probably better QBs out there than Henne, but I don't think the current regime is interested in just being better than Henne.   They want the guy.    They want a permanant solution. 

 

That said, I think if Bridgewater is there, they will take him.    But I have no evidence of it; it's just a gut feeling on my part.

None of those rookies are a "bonafide" upgrade for sure.  That's simply you doing what you normally do, confusing fact with your opinion.  Nothing is guaranteed, but keep on convincing yourself how smart you are.

 

Henne is serviceable as needed until we can find a legitimate upgrade. I know this concept really confuses you, but don't worry.  Other people understand my point.  Eventually someone will find a way to dumb it down enough so you'll grasp.  I don't anticipate the front office NOT bringing in a QB or two this off season. I, like others here, simply realize that just because you bring in players doesn't mean they're magically going to be an immediate fix.  The odds of that are slim. There aren't "plenty" of legitimate options available.  There are plenty of POSSIBLE options, of which I'm sure the team is going to explore.

Yes, I could understand your view if it was aimed at a QB like that. He's certainly no guarantee to succeed at this level, and odds are greater he tops out at career backup more than not.

Yep, and I brought the argument up THEN, that people around here were cluelessly overbashing Garrard, because I saw Garrard "at worst" as nothing less than average. 

 

I knew there was worse than Garrard, yet certain people on this board kept with their crusade, led with their overused vs Tennessee meltdown to cite Garrard as the worst QB in the league and someone we just had to get rid of ASAP....

 

The better plan would have been to keep Garrard as the starter until a Jaguars developed QB proved to earn the promotion to unseat him. 

I think the original plan WAS to keep Garrard until Blaine was ready. His health became an issue with the back problems and such, iirc.

But before all that the fans wanted him out. For the longest time I was convinced he would be a solid QB that could lead us to a Superbowl. I admitted I was wrong about that but I laugh at what transpired with many on this board. Pitchforks in hand wanting to run him out of town for not being able to perform behind a crumbling O-line with mid round draft picks and scrubs at receivers. 

 

Now we have a porous o-line, with average to above average receivers, and somehow what seems like an even worse D. And the pitchforks are out yet again, first for Blaine and now Henne.

 

Will Teddy come in and make the o-line and D better? Johnny? Carr?? 

I don't think so...

 

My point is... there is no reason to get rid of Henne just yet. Or Gabbert really. Draft a guy (in any round), bring in Stanzi (or Scott), Henne, and Gabbert into camp. And start whoever is best, no matter the name.

Rinse and repeat until we find "the guy". 

Henne is NOT the future, but there is no reason to make him not "the now". No one else will come in right away and perform THAT much better, and if they do, it'll likely be one of the younger guys that is already here and knows the playbook or a draft pick.

Bringing in Shaun Hill or Matt Cassel, or even Vick, will not help this team anymore than keeping Henne, imo.

I DIS-agree in that I believe that franchise guy IS availble this offseason. It seems some others either do not believe that (incorrectly) or they are deluding themselves to think that this QB class is poor with ulterior motive of damage control for the Jags FO should they pass on one of the 4 I mention.

Huh? Is Mallett like 35 or something? He still has a chance to be a very good starter in this league. Brunell and Hasselbeck sat for 2-3 years before they were traded elsewhere to become starters, too.

I, for one, would be OK with this.

Assuming Caldwell doesn't draft a QB at #3.

If Gabbert wins it and Caldwell picked a QB #3, then I fear Caldwell's eye for talent.

 

If Caldwell passes on QB until round 3 or 4, or waits til 2015, and Gabs beats out Henne and Stanzi or whomever, I'm OK with it. And if Gabs sucks throughout the season and we lose a lot, there will be a franchise guy on the horizon in 2015.

 

No matter who lines up under center, we're not going to the Superbowl this year... So why not roll with what we have until the rest of the team is built up. Dline, Oline, WR, RB... all these positions require more rebuilding/retooling... 

 

if we have a team that everyone says "they are just a QB away from being playoff bound" then you can go all out for one in the draft or FA and possibly have a dynasty.

Arguing over which backup we should sign in FA to replace Henne is silly.... to say the least.

By the stats one might be able to claim top 50, but that's not really saying much when a lot of teams only carry 2 QBs now that makes him in the bottom quartile of the league kind of QB.

I would say there are not more than 8 backups i rather have than henne.  he's top 40, for sure.

 

he is no worse than 33rd in the league in any of the major statistics, total yards, tds, passer rating, completion percentage, ypa, yards per game.  i'm not even declaring henne as a bonafide starter in this league, he is top 40 which makes him a border line QB in the NFL.  enough said, those guys don't grow on trees.

Kitna was light years better than Henne. He posted better numbers than Henne's best year in all years he started 15 games except one. Henne is incapable of a 26 TD season (Kitna's best) Henne isn't even Jake Delhomme.

3001 yards, 59.9%, 6.8 ypa, 12 tds / 17 ints, 73.2 rating

 

Henne in 2012, 2013 threw for:

2084 yards, 53.9%, 6.8 ypa, 11tds / 11 ints / 72.2 rating

3241 yards, 60.6%, 6.4 ypa, 13tds / 14 ints / 76.5 rating

 

i see similar production and play from an 34 year old hasselbeck and 28 year old henne.
