Jags Should Have A Fire Sale

#41

Quote:I'm going to repeat this until someone gets it.   The asset we traded was Monroe for 12 games.   Games we were not going to win anyway.   All the Ravens got for those draft picks was a 12 game contract.   Suppose we don't trade Monroe?   We're in the same position at the end of the year, except that we don't have those draft picks.   THAT WOULD BE REALLY STUPID.     Monroe signs with another team and you would be complaining about how we didn't trade him when we could have.  And guess what?   If we like him so much, we can still sign him at the end of the year!   BECAUSE HE'S A FREE AGENT!   Then we have him, PLUS the draft picks.

So, don't trade him, and you have nothing.   Trade him, and you have some draft picks.   What is wrong with that?

I did see this argument, from several people including yourself....and countered it with other examples (not Richardson) with players in similar contract situations that fetched much more in return....

I know you guys don't want to see those though, because you're too busy brother in law'ing the fleecing.

Bottom line is you don't sell decent assets for pennies on the dollar.

If this was a Marcedes Lewis trade, then I could see the scraps as compensation, because he sucks. But 25 year old top 10 OLT's should be able to fetch more than some 3rd day picks - regadrless of contract situation. You people act as if the Jags had no options here and HAD to let Monroe walk for nothing.....uhhhh theres something called the FRANCHISE tag that the Jags could have held Monroe hostage with until they got an offer that they felt was fair compensation....

Quote:I think yesterday was the start of the in season fire sale. I see it mentioned on here, but I sure hope Poz is next. Get what you can.

If there was such a thing as a 15th rounder, I'm sure Caldwell would be satisfied with that as return....

Quote:I'd be cool with the idea if our GM had any bargaining skill whatsoever.

At this rate we could trade away all of our players and only wind up with a mass of 5th through 7th rounders.

Other teams have fire sales, like the Marlins in baseball and usually actually get a solid return that they then use for the rebuild....Caldwell gets pennies on the dollar for legit assets like Monroe.

smh...

He still hasn't called you? And with all that NFL experience you've had.

Especially that fine work you've done with Chip Kelly.

MJD at this point anything

Lewis Anything as well with his salary

Lowery any interest?

I hope to see more players traded before the trade deadline.  If this is a complete rebuild then go all out

It's apparent that the Monroe trade has signalled it.

I think Poz stinks but even I think he's worth a 5th round DP.  If I was a team with LB issues, I'd give a 5th for him.  A 5th round LB is not going to be as good as him (and I don't think he's very good but still).

Quote:Remember last year when everyone said "Hey lets cut everyone from this sorry 2-14 team, we cant get any worse right?"

Well guess what?

We got worse.

Now imaging cutting/trading the few players who have value (not talking about MJD, more like Poz) do you think this team may get even worse than this year?...

Yeah we suck, nothing will change that this season and we are staring down a 0-16 record.

Quote:Poz is almost definitley gone next year, he has a cap hit upwards of 8M and he is very mediocre.
Leading NFL in tackles equates to mediocrity?

Hey, have some respect for the many pro scouts who populate this board. And thank them for taking the time to comment.

In my opinion, yes he is mediocre.  He's not a good player.  Is it better to make 20 TFL or 70 tackles 8 yards down field?  I'll let you pick.

Quote:Why not? Let's go from a 3-4 year rebuild to a 5-10 year rebuild.

It only makes sense.

here I am thinking what we already did this year was clear out everyone... and now we are talking about clearing out even more.... you literally can only replace a number of guys per year.... I am so sick of 5 year rebuild plans that never pan out

so sick of it

you can get good in a couple years if you are ran correctly.... this team has yet to figure that out

If they get Bridgewater next year, I believe they can balloon quickly to 8 wins, minimum the first year.

i hope so, but at this point I am worried we will find a reason/excuse to not draft bridgewater next year

I know that people think that because of Bradley that the Jags might prefer a mobile QB more like Russell Wilson....but remember, Caldwell was part of 2 franchise QB selections, (Ryan & Manning) and they were much closer to the type of QB that Bridgewater is, than Wilson....

Just food for thought.

We're drafting Jake Matthews. Remember RT's are just as important in today's league.

Quote:I would definitely be dangling MJD and Lowery out there. I would think a team like the Panthers would definitely like a guy like Lowery in their questionable secondary. MJD's stock has plummeted, but some contender like a Denver or someone might be interested. Especially given his pass protection ability to keep Manning clean.

I would have thought Denver would have shown more interest in Eugene Monroe after they lost Ryan Clady for the season.

Regarding MJD,   unless a team believes he's relatively healthy and hasn't lost a substantial part of his running skills due to injuries and age,   it's going to be difficult even getting a 7th Round pick for him.

They would have.....if it was needed....

Manning is just that good. He makes the OL look better. You don't even realize that Denver is even missing Clady with Manning back there. His pocket presence is that good. Manning still doesn't get touched.

This is why I want Bridgewater and why Bridgewater will easily make the best NFL QB of all the prospects in this draft.

He's not quite "Manning" but his pocket presence is head & shoulders better than the rest of the QB draft class.
