Jags to hire Leftwich as next head coach!!

(01-29-2022, 07:56 PM)Ronster Wrote: Report: Jaguars aren’t close to a deal with any head coach

The Jaguars are trying to hire Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. Unless they aren’t.

“In response to a report from Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times that the Jags are attempting to finalize a contract with Leftwich, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the team continues to talk to Leftwich and Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, and that the Jaguars “are not close to a deal with anyone at this time.””

Eberflus is going to the Bears.

The good thing about the Khan delaying this whole thing is that the good assistant coaches will have job offers already with other franchises, so we'll get more bottom of the barrel position coaches and coordinators.

Its the Jaguars way.

I’m worried about us missing out on the possibly putting together a good staff as well.

This may be an old story because if my memory serves me right Eberflus was hired by the Bears.

I agree.  Even if we get Byron and a new GM, not firing Baalke earlier still hurt this team by delaying the process.  I would rather our new head coach have first choice of coordinators and position coaches instead of having to pick through the coaches that other teams didn't want.

It’s Ronster. He’s stuck in the 60s.

The pony express hasn't delivered the Eberflus news to him yet?

To be fair, people have said the whole time that recruiting a competent coaching staff is going to be Byron's toughest task as a young, first time HC. I think the names we've heard as candidates for DC/OC sound pretty good, but our lower level staff is going to be extremely green and unproven.

No, I have been assured by moderators here that when you hire a HC they bring all their staff with them.  To think otherwise is utterly naive and goes to show you know nothing about football.  Therefore your concern is entirely misplaced.  Balke will have absolutely nothing to do with finding the staff who will fill the few holes Bevell has in his '22 coaching lineup.

Head coaches hire their own staff of coaches 99% of the time.

That’s what you were informed of.

Try not to convolute.

Well, either Khan is trying to get leverage over Leftwich, or they have restarted the search:

Jimmy's advice is right on. Byron should avoid this team. Career suicide in the current state of affairs. Franchise dumpster fire.

Yeah at a certain point, the team is what their history shows them to be. A dumpster fire.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

You know, just when we begin to accuse our owner of being the biggest bonehead in the league, The McCaskeys are there to up the ante.

Maybe he's a better play caller than he is wr developer.

I don't know that I'd trust him to serve as a doorstop.

Can we change the Subject title to Jags MAY hire Leftwich. The current title is very misleading.

My source thinks if this is true we are going with Bevell

The worst part of this will be that Bevell won't even get a shot to make his case that he's a worthwhile hire or not. He will be persona non grata from the moment Shad smiles for the cameras and hands him the key to the team.

I am kinda numb at this point. I just understand that the fanbase is fed the hell up and won't be silent until they get what they want (whether it works or not) or the guy they don't like somehow wins in spite of the backlash.

Shad keeps sticking his hands into the works, and it always ends up leaving him with scars.

I hope it's someone most fans will get excited about and want to buy tickets for. That's actually important. Also, I can see why the owner doesnt want to get rid of balkie. He probably doesnt want to change gms this often.

Fangio would be the equivalent of going back to Marrone.

It would be the most deflated presser ever to announce him as the new coach.
