Bradley says Henne our starter even if we draft QB at 3

#81

Henne is insurance.  I can see him starting a few weeks and once Bridgewater or whomever they draft is ready to start they'll switch Henne into back up mode. Henne is a decent back up and likable.

Some people on this board make it very annoying to read these threads. It's the same old story every damn time.

Quote:Or somebody else beats out Henne.

I thought Bradley was all about competition, turns out maybe that was all lip service.

If he were really focused on competition and getting better he'd have just said Henne will come in and try to win the job again like everyone else and the team wanted him in the competition.
If you think Bradley is not going to play the best QB on the roster when the season begins you're dumb.

I think Gus values the leadership the Henne brings to the locker room and the guidance he can offer to a rookie

It's safe to assume those who have this mindset aren't the brightest folks.

I have no problem with Gus saying Henne is the starter even if we draft a QB at #3. In fact, I'm relieved he's not going to force a rookie out there until he's ready. I'm not sure why some folks around here can't seem to grasp that it's rare to find a rookie you can plug in as a starter day one. Even more so with this draft class being void of a sure thing at the position. There are developmental guys who may ascend to a franchise level QB, but not right away.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Anymore, its "rare" that you get a QB that does not start from day one.

The only time you really need to take it slow with a QB is when you draft one that is raw and has many flaws that need "fixing". When you draft a QB the right way and take one that has a "high floor" and don't need much altering with his delivery/ mechanics etc etc, then you can usually plug him in as starter from day one.

Could this mean no Vick or McCown signing?  Gabbert is still on the roster although most would agree he's gone pretty soon. Jags are going to draft at least one QB so I'll suspect three QB's on the final depth charts in SEPT.

I think it most definitely closes the door on one of those being added now. I didn't want Vick anyway, unless they were considering Manziel. McCown would have been a better option than Henne.

Based on what?  His career half year last season?  Look at his career stats, he IS Henne, just older and not as in-tuned to our offense.

Again, how?  Because he got to throw to Jeffery and Marshall for half a season?

Edit:

Henne: career 59.5 comp.%  6.63 YPA  55-62 TD-INT

McCown:  career 59.4 comp.%  6.6 YPA  50-45 TD-INT (13-1 last season)

Same guy.

Quote:For those complaining here, I have a question.

How many GM's or coaches would say- "We are bringing Henne back to be a backup to a qb we have not yet drafted."?

Go away. Common sense isn't needed here.

is he really significantly better? Why being an older vet to learn a new offense when we got one. McCown isn't gonna lead us to the playoffs (not saying Henne will) but might as well have someone that knows the offense help teach the younger guys.

Coach speak is coach speak. Don't believe me ask Byron Leftwich and David Garrard.

Look on the bright side, at least they didn't name Gabbust the starter..

In all seriousness how is this a shock? We haven't drafted a QB yet you can't name a college kid as your starter before he's drafted

He needs something to cry about. He has an agenda.
