Red Bryant is visiting with jaguars
|
Quote:If Bryant is as great as you are selling then why are they so willing to let him walk?Because they dont have the cap space. Thomas and Sherman will be free agents at the end of the year and I am sure they want to get both of those guys signed. They also have Michael Bennett and others. Quote:If Bryant is as great as you are selling then why are they so willing to let him walk?Trust me, I am sure they would love to keep all their players but it dont work that way. Look at the Ravens after they won the SB
Quote:Have you ever thought of teams dont run at Red Bryant and teams want to run at Alu? How about Alu played about double the snaps Red did because Sea. only used Red on 1st and 2nd downs and short yardage plays and at the end of the year they started playing more pass rushers? Alu played better this year but is average at best. Good efficiency. But wait...I thought the lack of pass rushing (from that position) wasn't an issue in Seattles/ Gus' defense....thats what Tommy implied. Why would Seattle be playing less of Bryant late in the year in lieu of better pass rushers. I guess Seattle doesn't understand their defense either.... Quote:If Bryant was as pivotal for them as you seem to think he is, then I'd imagine they'd be doing anything they could to keep him Right. What's the point of Free Agency? Why bother even signing a player from the FA pool? If that player is worth anything why is his team letting him walk? Jarius Byrd must suck too.

Quote:Good efficiency. You still don't understand the defense I see.

Quote:If Bryant is as great as you are selling then why are they so willing to let him walk? I believe he was scheduled to make $4.5m this upcoming season. He was due a roster bonus of $3m march 14th. Plus I know Seattle is trying to free up cap space to start working on long term deals with Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman plus trying to bring back Michael Bennent and Golden Tate.
Quote:Right. No, players like Jairus Byrd, Greg Hardy and a few others are/ were worth it. But the number of players in free agency that are actually worth persuing are very small compared to the amount of actual free agents available. Most are average players that get paid like stars. IMO the only FA's worth going after are on either extreme - the rare top quality like Byrd, Mack, Hardy etc etc or the cheap price, higher upside guys like Marks from last year. The middle guys generally are not worth what they cost.

As said, if the Jags can get Bryant here for a short term reasonable money deal, then I'm fine with it.
Anything more than 3 years/ 12 MIL total, and its wasting money. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Bryant may not have had the tackles Alu had, but that speaks more about him doing his job than stats indicate. His job is to take pressure off the other defensive players. He will command a double team, something I seriously doubt Alu does. With him and Miller plugging holes along the defensive line, look for Marks, Babin, Branch and whoever else to get more stats. I'm still hoping Bennett signs too, d line is instantly upgraded and gives us the advantage of time through the draft, both the ex Seahawks will play for around 4-5 more years hopefully which will allow us to take fewer d line men this year and upgrade the roster as a whole. Money well spent IMO

Money well spent IMO The next question would be would L Houston give you more of a dynamic at the same position than Bryant would. Would he give you more value for the money - if he's playing the 5 technique at Alu's position, I'd think it would be a possibility. Not sure what he'd cost, either though, and it would be dependent upon cost, or should I say not grossly overpaying.

With all the talk of more guys hitting the market, I had forgotten about Houston. Me thinks some other team will be paying more than we would be willing to spend though. I'd be happy with either. Alualu is better suited as a rotational player

It don't matter, whoever the Jags sign or are linked too, most on here will soil there pants regardless.

Quote:No, players like Jairus Byrd, Greg Hardy and a few others are/ were worth it. In other words, the players of your choosing are worth it while anyone you don't like isn't. Quote:If Bryant is as great as you are selling then why are they so willing to let him walk? They are Super Bowl champs with a young team. They weren't going to keep every productive player. Some were bound to be released to be able to keep the core together. He may not be in Seattle's young core. He may not be in the Jaguars' long term plans. But he is still an upgrade over Alualu. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

He doesn't really fit our profile of young ascending free agent. If we sign him, I'm wondering what that would tell us about our plans for building this team. This move would be a little more aggressive than I expected, meaning we would apparently be trying to move faster toward competitiveness.

I mean, we should be, but we wont Quote:But in reality, practically anyone is an upgrade over AlualuI agree with this. But I don't see the point in knocking a Red Bryant signing, if the team signs him to a reasonable deal. Bradley is a year removed from coaching him. Bryant knows the scheme and Bradley. Bradley is capable of looking at the film and seeing what he did last year, and making a reasonable guess as to what Bryant can do in this scheme this year. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:I agree with this. I don't think he will cost much as he is really a two down player. I won't lose sleep if we don't sign him but he makes the team better.
