Red Bryant Signs

Quote:I am not doing back flips over the signing but I'll take him. Our defensive line was atrocious last year and needs all the help it can get. Not sure why people want Michael Johnson here. Would be a stupid signing. Will be massively overpaid, and is not a great pass rusher. Had the one year and thats basically it. 3 QB sacks last year. 3. Elephant is the LEO, so youre right.
Quote:If so, then I stand corrected, but I had always heard LEO and elephant described the same guy. You might be right. I never have read about it. The way it was explained to me is that the Elephant (tweener type pass rusher) from the 3-4 defense is now called the LEO and they spread him out wider. Then the anchor of the defense is the two-gap DE or ELEPHANT which I heard it called that now because of that person is over-sized to play DE

Quote:
The Elephant front turned into it's own position, with Carroll eventually changing the name to "Leo." The Leo isn't particularly unique in and of itself. Most defenses have some kind of unique name for their weakside edge player (Buck/Whip/Jack), but Carroll plays him in a particularly loose alignment, and he's the one player along the front who isn't concerned with getting one-yard upfield and anchoring in this defense. He can line up standing up or with his hand in the ground, and sole focus is to be the primary pass rusher and wreak havoc in the backfield. Ultimately, what makes Carroll's defense unique is how the huge gap between the Leo and the next defensive lineman along the scrimmage is defended. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Having a super bowl winning player on the roster, especially one who played a big role in that win, is a pretty nice thing in and of itself for a team so young and inexperienced.

Hm. Well, okay then. "Spend ALL the monies," crowd, here's your first granted wish.

Here's a really good article I found. Interesting information about his struggle to overcome dyslexia and make it to college to eventually graduate

Quote:http://www.bigcatcountry.com/2013/1/19/3...o-position Thank you. Now I know ![]() ...though I will say I miss calling him the Elephant since he is so big.
Quote:Not sure why people want Michael Johnson here. Right. The only defensive end the Jaguars should sign is the one the Panthers put the franchise tag on. Anybody else "would be a stupid signing".

This may be the best thing for Alualu also. He has been the starter basically by default the past few years. Maybe with someone better than him now on the roster that plays his new position, he will work that much harder now. Also, it won't hurt to have him with fresh legs coming off the bench. He had talent in college, he has been under performing..badly.

Not really worried about his age over the next few years. His role isnt really built on speed, as long as he dont lose any power he will be just fine.
Fantastic signing. He is getting up there in age but like it's been said he's more of a run stuffer.
Any word if Bennett will resign with Seattle? Saw last night the 49er's had interest in him. If we could get Bennett I think we focus the rest of our efforts on Offense in FA

Quote:Not sure why people want Michael Johnson here. I'd be willing to bet you've never watched him play.

Unlike a lot of the posters here, I actually watch a lot of the rest of the NFL play, and not Jaguars only.
