Jaguars to land someone quickly in FA

Nothing wrong with Beadles if we also get another good guard or center. Beadles alone with a rookie guard and center is recipe for disaster

Jaguars won't sign the top free agents.  Build through the draft, sign top free agents to fill the missing pieces when the team is a contender for a Super Bowl.

Not sure how "much" of an improvement talent-wise he'll be compared to the proportionate increase in salary he'll make from those 2.

I agree that Beadles WITH a Mack signing also will be better than if he is brought in alone/ with rookie G/ C.

So, targeting players (e.g. Byrd/ Mack/ etc) that actually have high talent at least gets you something in return for that overpayment.

Overpaying guys like Beadles/ M Johnson/ Bennett) gets you players like the Jags signed in previous years, i.e. Pashos/ Landry/ Session, i.e. average talent////but for lotsa money.

Yeah because signing high talent FAs always works too...

I don't think the mindset is to sign free agents who are determined to be "top" free agents based on how the media ranks them.  I think this front office has done their evaluation of each player they're considering, and how he's ranked by ESPN or some other source is irrelevant.  What matters is whether or not he fits what they're looking for in any player they acquire.

To say they won't sign media labeled top free agents is simply not an accurate assessment.  We don't know what they'll do.  We know Caldwell has said they'll be cautious in free agency, but that doesn't mean they're going to shy away from a guy who may represent a significant upgrade who can be a fixture for this team for more than a year or two.  They don't need to sit on their hands and wait for when they're contenders because you never know what may happen.  That could wind up being a reality much faster than anyone anticipates.  They need to evaluate each player in the here and now, determine whether he's a good fit, then find a number that everyone can live with.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Oh come on, you can't be serious with that first comment regarding Beadles compared to Uche/Rackley.

Reggie White/ Deion Sanders/ Julius Peppers/ Searcy......

Its rare that highly talented players make it to free agency, but when they do, they usually produce at a high level for their new teams.

The comment is focusing on the ratio of improvement / per salary of each. I think Beadles will be better than those 2....but how much? If you are going to pay him tons of cash, and the improvement is only slight, is it a smart move overall?

I'd caution against overrating Beadles talent level until we see how he performs without quick draw McManning as his QB.

Jaguars organization would never pursue those type of players even if they fit the Jaguars system, why?, cause the Jaguars are cheap, like a poster started mentioning, "econojags"

Asamoah is gonna get 4.5 mill per year from Atlanta. I would gladly pay 2 guards like him. Jags should be able to get at least 2.

Quote:but Beadles, largely with the help of blocking for a QB that gets rid of the ball quicker than just about any QB in football, will be overrated, and way overpaid, based on that.

It's not at all possible that professional evaluators are able to make that evaluation?  And overpaid... yes, people acquired in FA are normally overpaid, it's why it's not the preferred method to acquire players.

I'm sure the improvement will be more than just a slight upgrade considering how awful the unit was last year and all the reports saying Beadles is a very solid guard...Uche/Rackley was far from that last year. I used to love Uche, but he isn't the same guy anymore, and Rackley has been brutal since he got here. Beadles will be a solid veteran that brings more playoff/SB experience as well.

Like someone else mentioned, when a player hits FA, you have to bid against other teams so obviously the guy will likely be more expensive than he should be. I don't mind paying a solid guy like Beadles though if it's somewhat reasonable.

People were up on arms last offseason when the Jaguars showed interest in Tyler Polumbus of the Washington Redskins, he didn't have a great 2012 season, but it was reported David Caldwell thought he was an ascending player and a good fit in our zone blocking scheme. Polumbus chose to resign with Washington and had an all-pro year as Washington’s starting right tackle in 2013, so the moral of this story, trust the process, David Caldwell and the Jaguars director of pro scouting know more than us.

Thats reasonable money.

And he's a better player than Beadles IMO....but watch, Beadles will make more than that, I'll bet....mostly because of Peyton.

I'll bet Beadles gets upwards of at least 6 MIL per

The best way to improve a football team is through the draft, not free agency. Caldwell will find some nuts and bolts and get the hammer out on draft day.

Yes, Beadles will get more than that for sure. He was a solid OG on a Super Bowl team that most consider one of the best guards on the market. Asamoah is nice, and I would love him, but I'm pretty sure he got replaced midseason...so yes, I bet the guy coming of making the SB that is known as a very solid guard is going to get more than the guy that got replaced midseason...(if that is correct like I remember reading).

Nothing wrong with that.
