But if he can just be average with some great games here or there, and stay healthy for the next few seasons, the Jags do not have to waste pucks and money on a QB, and redirect those efforts to beef up the rest of the team

Am I the only one that looks at that week one game and thinks:

If Trevor doesn't miss that one TD pass that was just barely off target (not the wheel route to ETN)
- and if ETN doesn't drop the other easy TD swing pass - we win that game by 5 and none of this nit-picking even happens.

You could also do the same routine analyzing defensive gaffs as well. 

It just looks to me that 95% of Trevor's mistakes appear really easy to fix. Very few look worrisome to me.

Of much, much greater concern to me is the OL and the secondary. Their mistakes appear much more worrisome, with LG appearing near hopeless.

100% which is why I think a lot of us are frustrated but optimistic.

Nope. Not alone at all. Been with this line of thinking since the game finished up that very same day. Cited it a few times. It feels really, really GOOD to be just nit picky over a close loss this year Vs. being down and out with no hope moving forward over the last two year's of god awful outings. 

Confident this team gets it right more times than not this year. I was ecstatic after this team came out in the 2nd half and CLEARY had a discussion as a team and made adjustments that not only worked, but, like you both have pointed out, had they executed a little bit better earlier on or later in the game?

We're 1 - 0 and riding high now drunk with optimism as a fanbase with this season opener at home this Sunday. Would I like to be drunk with optimism? [BLEEP] yeah! You betcha! 

I am still happy with a little buzz right now of optimism. I'll take that too!

I'd gladly take the 2nd coming of Phillip Rivers -- 15 years of playoff runs with the possibility of even winning 1 super bowl.  Just to be in the mix every year (like we were in the past) would be great !!!

Heck, even if we have a QB that is considered to be ~ the 8th to 10th ranked QB in the NFL allows us to focus our attention to other positions in the draft and free agency.  

It's weird to think that Indy was set for another 15 years of elite QB play only to see Andrew Luck retire after 6 seasons and not even get his 500 billion dollar contract.

Yeah it’s a bit muted since the game day thread but there is still a lot of over reaction going on here.  We beat ourselves with issues that are easy to fix.  It’s a much better situation than just getting beat because your team/coach are inferior.  I challenge some of you to go back and re-watch all of Trevor’s drop backs last week and really watch the plays unfold.  He didn’t have that many errors that were on him.  He is the franchise.

Do you know where Peyton Manning was at this same point in his career? Not good!

He was on his way to a 13 - 3 season, first pro-bowl appearance, and play-off appearance while leading the third best overall offense in the NFL. They got beat 19 - 16 by a pretty good tacks team in the divisional round that year.

Manning was successful after his rookie year. Yes, he threw a league leading 28 INT's that year, but, he also hit the endzone 26 times. But, as soon as he hit his 2nd year? He was pretty much money throughout the majority of his career. He was notorious for playing awful in the play-off's though up until the Bears game in Miami.

Let's keep in mind while those stats don't seem spectacular, this was an era in the NFL where Mark Brunell was considered a good QB. Brunells best season was 20 td 9 int. A very underwelming stat line in todays game.

I think statistically Trevor had a solid showing. What worried me more than anything else was that it felt like he got uncomfortable when the game was on his shoulders. I don't feel like he has that clutch gene that the greats have, but time will tell.

I totally get it which is why I don't really compare the two. Every situation is unique to each QB. Herbert came in to a team with Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. Mahomes had Tyreek, Kelce, and Reid. The only player/situation I think is somewhat comparable is Josh Allen who didn't have a great second season at all. It wasn't until he got Diggs (shocker) that he started to really take off.

This was year 2. 

Now Allen didn't come in with anywhere close to the hype that Lawrence had but he did go to a team that went to the playoffs the previous year (took that L too).
