In the $30K & under venue, what do you think is the best vehicle for the money?

Not when you're sitting in the waiting room watching them. And I think the watch Nissan is doing not necessarily making vital components easier to repair when they break but to make day to day repairs quicker and easier. in some cars to change the bulb in a head light you have to take the wheel off. That's horrible design, and it's exactly the kind of crap you can avoid with a design philosophy like Nissan's.

Quote:Subaru is one of the best cars on the road. They're practically bulletproof. I am not aware of any serious maintenance issues with them. I would buy one in a heartbeat.

There is a re-flash which changes the parameters so that annoying P0420 code won't pop up all the time. Camry is a hard car to beat too.

The Subaru forester IS a great car but the timing system is very complex I was just trying to point out to prikster that while Subaru is a great car it's not something you'll be able to service with YouTube and a DIY tool box

And that reflash for the p0420 is only guaranteed to resolve the false convertor codes by Toyota if you first replace both oxygen sensors and the convertor itself.

You are correct the Chevy suburban for example you have to take the front bumper off to replace a $3 running light. VW are also famous for the bumper and light relationship. By far the most outrageous light bulb you'll find in a 00-03 Nissan Altima it's $97 light bulb regardless of who or where you buy it from dont ask me why

I drive an older Kia and rode in a lot of newer ones while in Korea. They're solid cars. While they may not quite equal Hondas or Toyotas in reliability yet, they're not far behind and improving all the time.

Quote:Don't sleep on Hyundai either they're way under priced right now an making some excellent cars

I bought a 2013 Hyundai Azera  a little over a year ago.  While it was a bit over 30K it is an incredible vehicle.  Worth every penny.   My sister has a 2012 Sonata, nice car for the money and you can't beat the warranty.

Quote:That used to be the "G35" right?

If you only paid 25K for it, you had to buy it used, right? How many years old was it/ milage when you bought it? Gas milage? Insurance high?
G37 is model above G35. Yes, I bought it used. I don't think I'll ever buy a car new. The sweet spot for cars is 25,000 to 35,000 miles. Based on my research, that was the best value. I believe mine had 34,000 miles and it was a lease.

As far as insurance goes, I don't know if we would be comparing apples to oranges. I'm a Realtor so I have to have higher insurance for every passenger in my car. My cost went down though from the BMW.

As far as what is too expensive for a car, really depends on your income. A $15,000 car for someone may cost the same percentage of income as a $30,000 car to others. It's relative to what you make.

Final note, if you want something that can handle close to BMW, G37 is where it is at. I can barely tell a difference and rated as the closest thing to BMW when it comes to handling plus it's quicker and has more horse power.

I'd prefer they invest their time and money on designs that don't break down so often in the first place.

That's the reason Nissan is not and will not be Toyota or Honda.

Correction.  It's not income, it's how frugal you are.  For a single guy it may not make a difference.  But to those who have multiple mortgages/investments, a family, college funds, and other toys etc, etc,... it may not make sense.  No matter what your income $15k can do a lot more on your asset side than will on your expense sheet.

Well income certainly can factor in, but definitely not the only factor. Like I said, it is relative to your own situation. For a lot of people, $15,000 is too much to spend on a car. Just depends what you enjoy. Some people like to go to football games and fish and some people like to drive nice cars. Relative.

I think it was 4 years, 48,000 miles.

Just bought my son the Hyundai Veloster (Turbo).  I prefered the Mazda CX-5 but it was too practical for his liking.

Quote:That's what happens when car manufacturers make quality parts. It's the same with Saab. They cost more to buy and no one would know why, until they crashed one.

It wasn't body work they were doing, it was normal routine maintenance.  I had a friend show up there one time and her Volvo had about 30 or so thousand miles on it.  She spent almost $2,000 on "routine" maintenance.

I'm not saying they are bad cars, they are just costly to maintain.
