Caldwell all but confirming we're not taking a QB in the first round

Quote:I agree- especially about the hype comparable to Geno Smith.  Maybe I only watched the wrong Louisville games?  I mean- I certainly have seen 100 highlights of the guy.

Maybe ESPN picks about 5 or 6 QB's every year and just blows them up?

From everything I have read about Teddy Bridgewater, he is the opposite of Geno Smith.   Geno Smith is kind of weird and insecure.   Bridgewater is a true student of the game who had complete carte blanche to change plays at the line of scrimmage, and is liked and admired by his teammates.   Bridgewater will blow away the coaches on the whiteboard, while, from what I heard, Geno Smith was kind of not all there mentally.

I really don't see anything similar in the two of them at all.

There are no similarities between the two, they are complete opposites.

Quote:We have to avoid a first round bust at all costs. If this mean skipping on a QB first round and picking one next year, I'm fine with that. A question is what if Henne plays the whole year and goes for 4200 yards ad 25 TDs.

So draft scared?  Pass on a QB this year because he might bust but draft one next year because he wont bust?  every draft pick has a chance to bust

Is that really such a stretch? Extrapolating a full year of starting last year he'd have 3900 during a year when most people think the offense was historically inept. I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume the offense *overall* will be improved.

Draft responsibly. Don't reach on a guy just because you have a need. Those picks are the ones that hardly ever work out. If you have a QB with a first round grade, take 'em but otherwise, BPA.

I could see Henne putting up *numbers i.e 3,500, 20+ TD's 20 + Ints.. may not translate to wins but I don't think our offense will be inept.  I'd still rather take Bridgewater. I really like the kid although he does need to put on some weight.

I'd still like to see him put on a little more.. not much.. maybe build some muscle so long as it dosen't deter his athletic ability.

Why? I dont see how that helps.

Im sure he will workout like everybody else, but I disagree that he NEEDS to do something extra to "bulk up" or whatever.

Guys who are 240lbs of solid muscle get injured too

Guys with smaller frames tend to get banged up more.. not saying he should hulk up.. just that he needs to put on a little at the next level.

The worst scenerio for the Jags is for Henne to put up those type of numbers.

It looks as though the chances of drafting a QB with the 3rd overall pick is getting slimmer and slimmer.  Who knows.  It's still a way to go before draft day.

is it gonna matter? if we don't draft a QB early on I really don't see us drafting this high next year.

Good call. I was hoping for Bridgewater originally but that was before I educated myself on Bortles. If we couldn't get Clowney, it's clear now that Bortles was the right pick.
