Engram had his career day 11 catches 162 yards 2 TD in week 14 against the tacks a few weeks ago. They had no answer for him and have struggled to cover TEs all season long.

I expect Doug and Co. to take advantage of that again. Engram should have another big day.

Took a look at Etienne's deal for perspective, and I'll rescind my statement on that knowledge. Was thinking that we'd be looking at minimum 5-6 per year for a Rd 1 pick. Might be closer to 4/4.5. Still might be some soreness involved if we throw 15-16M at TE. Basically kiss any improvement to pass rush goodbye with that level of expense.

Engram obviously must be the Jaguars top priority.  However, I don't see the team using the franchise tag on Engram.  The franchise tag is projected to be around $12 million for tight ends and if you did it, the Jaguars would incur all $12 million in 2023.  The Jaguars can offer a favorable deal that will count less against the cap.  Even Christian Kirk's deal is only counting $7.5 million against the Jaguars cap this year.  The Jaguars can make an attractive offer to Engram by giving a back loaded contract with guaranteed money and a large signing bonus.

In regards to Taylor, I think they make the tough choice and let him go.  Walker Little is an option and we need the money more elsewhere.

It's more about diversifying than spending specifically on a darfted position.

If we re-up Engram, I think the second and third TE can be the middle of the road guys that are either going to bolster the blocking or spell Engram. I'd like first round capital to address a separate need, if the pick fits, such as OG, IDL, or even RT. If the big guys aren't there, then sure, swing for a second TE or a 4th WR.

But if we are strapped for cap, I'd hate to eat up most of the room we make on one position, especially if we create some new gaps in the roster along the way.

It is near impossible to guess what positions gets priority in rounds 1-3 until that happens.
TE, OL, IDL, NB, WDGE/OLB, all are in play and there will probably be viable choices from that list at our early picks. 
What they sign in FA and how much they spend doing it will affect how much draft capital they feel comfortable spending own redundant position players. 

If they do draft a TE early, I'd expect that player to be a bigger, more prototypical dual purpose TE that can play in line as a blocker more effectively while still posing a threat in the passing game. Engram is becoming a better blocker, but is definitely more of a receiving TE.

And they'll very likely pass on higher but similarly rated players to take the guys they need. Sorry, but it's draft philosophy season again. While there are different shades of grey, it is common practice in the NFL for the first year of a multi-year contract to have a lower cap hit than future years.  I'm fine with backloading contracts if it is done in moderation and done with players such as Engram who I see as being a key contributor for multiple seasons going forward.

I don’t normally get into the numbers bc I believe you can’t put a price limit on a good football players, but probably something like 4 years for $49 million with $9M guaranteed with a $4.5 million signing bonus. He would be the age of 32 the last year of his contract.

Engram had 4 games in which he got 2 targets or less, and he had another game where he had 3 targets.
