I, for one, was rooting for the Jaguars to get the first overall pick that season even though that meant wanting a bad team to go ahead and lose a couple more games.

The problem with rooting for the number one pick is it's never a sure thing. The past is littered with early draft picks who never measured up. We thankfully got one that worked out. Nevertheless, I won't root for my team to lose even though I was glad it ultimately resulted in us getting Trevor. If you're always focused on the future, unless you're team is winning Superbowls, you're always rooting for them to lose.

I think this is overly narrow of a view. A wise fan will have a good bead on the direction a team is headed, and to say just because the focus is not on this week, we're always looking to lose isn't accurate. For instance, once we had Trevor in place, the desperation to address QB wasn't nearly as urgent. I think we all recognized that Urbz was in over his head and was not going to be the long-term solution at HC, but very few of us were celebrating when the team looked ill-prepared from Sunday to Sunday.

Same could be said about the losing streak earlier this season - nobody was clamoring to pack it in and play for yet another top ten (five?) pick. We all understood that the growth was a process, and that in time the hope would shift from blind faith to confident assurance.

If you're rolling with Mike Glennon or Jake Luton, though? Man, nobody will remember what 3 teams you beat that season, unless it was the tacks. Wink  I'll take a few losses along the way if it means we get outta that misery.

Well, it *is* about the opposition this week so fair game. After we CRUSH them, we can move it to one of the other forums.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.
