Literally no reason to mess with what's working. He's been plenty good enough to be our kicker moving forward. He missed that one against the Jets but made a bunch in some nasty weather. If we try to replace him we'll just end up in the same spot we were this past offseason

Being an ERFA, it's a no brainer to bring him back as an option.  However, I would bring in competition.  It's not just about percentage.  You have to consider the kicks the coaches didn't trust him to even attempt.  He has only attempted 2 kicks over 50 with his long being 52.  Most teams will attempt a 54 yard field goal on 4th down but the Jags are forced to go for it.  Patterson is not bad but could be better.

I hear you but Tucker has been doing it forever. Not just one season. I meant if we could manage to find some college QB who has just been fire and money. But I haven't heard such hype of any kickers.
Also.... I know Tucker is coming back to do it all again next year and holds the record for longest kick iirc, so if I could trade them straight up I'd do it in a heart beat. But Tucker is really 1 of 1 imo
Patterson could flame out after one solid year. I'd still resign him though, but you (Baalke) gotta do due diligence (Camp competition) for the position to see if there us a guaranteed improvement.

A lot of times I see this as more confidence in the QB's ability to get the couple a yards than it is lack of faith in the kicker's range. We know Doug is a analytics guy and a gambler, so....4th and 2 from the 37, you get these potential outcomes:

go for it, get it: drive continues inside the 35, potential to score 6, or make the kick easier with a few gains
go for it, fail: turnover where the ball is downed
kick, get it: 3 points
kick, miss: turnover spotted at the 44.

seems to me like go for it is the lowest risk with greatest reward if time allows play to carry on and your offense has been moving.

Re-sign him to a descent two year contract w/the insight to signing him long term after those two years. At this point, Do Not throw BIG Money his way.

Let's not over complicate things. He did well for us this year. I say resign him and bring in some guys to compete with him, talk to during the preseason and get a beer with after practice. Then cut the other guys before the season starts. I still remember the year we had how many kickers, was it one a week???
