Our previous playoff wins were 2007 and 2017.
Both runs ended with losses to the Pats in Foxboro.  And 2017 probably should have been a win, Myles Jack wasn't down.
In both cases, the Jags had only a few injuries, and the board assumed we were one or two pieces away from reaching the super bowl.
In the 2008 off-season, management agreed, and brought those exact pieces in.  Personally I thought Derrick Harvey and Jerry Porter would be lifting the Lombardi after the 2008 season. Wow.
In 2018, management behaved as if the Jags already had all the pieces they needed, and did nothing to replace Poz and Allen Robinson. But we were cautiously optimistic.
Instead, in both cases, we got major regression in QB play along with more injuries than before.
When you compare the three seasons game by game, the only reason to be more optimistic this off-season compared to the other two is Lawrence.  Everything else is a wash.

It's coaching and QB1 though that make everything feel better for the long haul. I don't see this team swinging for the fences just yet.

They landed some base hits in free agency last year, now, they have to land some homeruns in this draft and figure out who to keep and let walk that can be potentially backfilled by rookies from last year stepping up and the previous year's class stepping up into year three. Where things really should click.

They need to have the same approach Seattle had in last year's off season during their draft. Pick three areas of need and double down on it. They needed better secondary play, pass rush and pass protection. So, they drafted Bryant and Woolen at CB, Cross and Lucas at OT and Mafe and Smith at DE. They made one big splash effort early with Walker III at RB.

Our approach needs to be really no different. Double down at Guard/Center, double down at CB/Nickel CB and double down at Defensive Tackle/End. Obviously not every player you take will be a major hit in year one, but, it's a good practice to have. The "splashy, early" pick for me would be in RD2 where they probably draft a Tight End early just to make up for the fact that the entire room is gutted by April. With hopefully Engram tagged and we still have Farrell.

Back in 2007 we overpaid for Garrard and it [BLEEP] us all up.

In 2017, we overpaid for Bortles and it [BLEEP] us all up.

Additionally, there were dim witted fans in 2008 that figured it was JDR that was the problem...  I mean, it turns out JDR is a moron.  But at the time, he was the best coach available.  And there were idiots on this message board with pitch forks out.

Now we have a QB that we will eventually have to pay, but not now.  But we still have to support our QB with the best players available...  The GM we currently have is gonna have to prove he can surround a Great QB and a Great HC with worthy players.  Otherwise, we'll wind up like the Bills - All Promise not payoff

Always felt allowing Poz to leave after 2017 was an enormous mistake .... 

And funnily enough the schedule did us no favours in 2018, getting the Patriots early completely wiped out any longer term focus! I never really bought into the 'revenge ' element. Good lesson for the current team ... If you want revenge, get it in the play-offs!

Personal opinion this one but Pederson feels like a considerably more accomplished coach than Marrone.

Yeah you could argue that the o line play in 2022 was significantly worse than 2007 or 2017.

I can't comment on 2007 but Parnell, Omameh and Cann definitely got a bit of stick on this board in 2017 ... Although Linder was probably a cut above anything on the interior at the minute.

This is inaccurate

1. Pederson factor is huge. I mean, really huge. 
   
2. This team has 9 quality starters from its past two drafts playing on affordable deals
   
3. Culture shift - this team, right down to every free agent signing, is 100% bought in to the system - no malcontents
   
4. GM is by all accounts ready to give the coach what he wants to execute his scheme
   

These are all different from the prior seasons mentioned.

A quality QB and coach pairing can cure a lot of ills. The unknown of this equation is how the front office will do with the upcoming draft and FA period. We do know that Calvin Ridley will assumably be on the roster next season which could add a lot to that room if Ridley can get back to where he was. I feel like this team is better positioned then it was in 2007 and 2017. To me the x factor is the salary cap which can have a negative impact if it's not navigated carefully. We shall see.

I'm just remembering how we felt about the GM and coach after 2007 and 2017.  We were pretty happy with those guys also.

Another major difference in 2022 compared to 2007 at least is the maturity of the fans on this board. Dennis Northcutt became known as Dennis Dropcutt after his playoff performance and we all cheered when he was finally traded away. We're giving Jamal Agnew much better treatment, as we should.

Thank goodness we are not hand wringing and stuck in the Sean Peyton drama. I think we have legit coaches and a young ascending QB.
