Emmanuel Sanders visited Jaguars signed with Denver/Manning in decline?
|
Quote:Emmanuel Sanders is of the Mario Manningham/Nate Burleson/Nate Washington mode, he's and underwhelming #2 that is most effective as a #3. I don't blame him for shopping around for the best possible offer as I'd do the same, someone will overpay for his services I just hope it's not the Jaguars. While I agree with you regarding the other players being most effective as # 3 WR's, before injuries and age caught up to him, I thought Nate Burleson was a good # 2 WR. This doesn't even take into account the excellent leadership Burleson brought to the table. On a sidenote, Burleson has a tremendous future in broadcasting if he chooses to go in that direction after his playing days are over. We show less advertisements to registered users. Considering that he left Jax without signing a contract, has already visited two other teams, with at least one more visit likely, you probably will be proven correct. It will be interesting to see the key contract terms of the deal Emmanuel Sanders eventually signs and what roles he will be used in with his new team.
We should take a look at Jerricho Cotchery. Played well as WR3 for the Steelers last year.
Over 30 but prob has 1-2 seasons of solid football left. Would be nice having a veteran WR in the mix, as well. Quote:We should take a look at Jerricho Cotchery. Played well as WR3 for the Steelers last year. Very reliable player. Student of the game. The Jaguars or any team that signs Jerricho Cotchery could do a lot worse. At the right price, he would be a good addition for practically any team. Many WR's with much more ability have come and gone since Cotchery came into the NFL with the Jets. It'd be nice to have a veteran WR like Jerricho but I really would prefer to let Shorts be that guy with rookies developing on the roster. There are so many talented WRs that some are bound to drop in the draft. We can pick up 2 with 4th round or later picks that have higher grades on them. Cotchery could be had for an affordable contract relative to his skill level, and give us more freedom in the draft. Also gives us insurance. Shorts does have a concussion history. The more I think about it, the more I think we have to make this move. Quote:Cotchery could be had for an affordable contract relative to his skill level, and give us more freedom in the draft. I honestly rather have Taylor on the roster than Cotchery. This draft class is LOADED with WR talent, if we don't pick one wide out it would be very shocking.

I'll take a couple of WRs in the draft and Cotchery. Quote:This draft class is LOADED with WR talent, if we don't pick one wide out it would be very shocking. Agree. I could see us taking two WR in the first four rounds, where there should be very good quality. I'm not sure there are any FAs that entice me (for the money) as much as the value we could see in the draft.

We need to pick some offensive linemen in the first 4 rounds or all those WRs we pick will be worth absolutely nothing. Quote:We need to pick some offensive linemen in the first 4 rounds or all those WRs we pick will be worth absolutely nothing. You probably won't have to. Interior OL (even Hall of Famers) aren't typically drafted high. We've got eleven picks. We'll get those, too.

Here is an article on the possible reason he has not struck a deal yet..
http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/story?storyId=1...rc=desktop Emmanuel Sanders has been crisscrossing the country visiting teams this week, but the former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver might not get the kind of contract he covets because of medical concerns, a source told ESPN.com. Sanders has a screw in each foot, stemming from injuries he sustained in the Super Bowl following the 2010 season, and teams might be leery of signing the four-year veteran to a long-term deal. Sanders is believed to be seeking a contract in the range of what former Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate snagged from the Lions earlier this week. Detroit signed Tate to a five-year, $31.5 million deal with $13.25 million guaranteed. Sanders visited the Jaguars and Buccaneers earlier this week. He met with the Chiefs in Kansas City on Friday, and the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder will visit the 49ers on Saturday, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The Steelers are open to the possibility of bringing back Sanders, but he might have to accept a shorter-term contract and less money than he is seeking to return to Pittsburgh or sign with another team. Sanders' agent, Steve Weinberg, did not return several phone calls from ESPN.com. Sanders has played every game each of the past two seasons after missing eight games in his first two NFL seasons. ESPN injury analyst Stephania Bell said a player might be healthy enough to play but also have some potential medical issues that make teams wary of signing him to a long-term contract. Bell said every team is different in how it assesses medical risks when signing players. Offensive tackle Rodger Saffold, as an example, signed with the Raiders on Wednesday, but Oakland nixed the deal because of a failed physical. The Rams quickly re-signed Saffold to a five-year, $31.7 million contract with $19.5 million guaranteed. Sanders is coming off a season in which he started for the first time on a regular basis and established career bests in receptions (67), receiving yards (740) and touchdown catches (six). He also averaged 26.8 yards as a situational kickoff returner. The Steelers nearly lost Sanders last year when the Patriots signed the restricted free agent to a one-year, $2.5 million contract. The Steelers matched the offer instead of letting Sanders walk and taking a third-round pick in this year's draft as compensation. Sanders, who turns 27 on Monday, became an unrestricted free agent March 11. He has received, as expected, his share of interest from teams with a need at wide receiver. Sanders has 161 career catches with 2,030 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Markus Wheaton, the Steelers' third-round pick last year, is expected to get the first crack at Sanders' starting job if he doesn't return to Pittsburgh.
Hakeem Nicks would have been a nice signing. 1 year, 3.5 to sign in Indy? I would have paid him $4 million. No state income tax, better weather... I guess having Andrew Luck throwing to him while playing on a 1 year deal was too much to pass on. I think the uncertainty of the QB position here may be sabotaging efforts at adding a WR. Likely have to wait for one of the leftovers and hopefully we can find a valuable addition. Of course, the draft is deep as well.

Signing Sanders or anyone else is just icing on the cake.

@AdamSchefter: Neither team nor player's agent will confirm, but Broncos are expected to sign former Steelers WR Emmauel Sanders, per league sources.
Idk where they get money from lol
Quote:@AdamSchefter: Neither team nor player's agent will confirm, but Broncos are expected to sign former Steelers WR Emmauel Sanders, per league sources. They are loading up for a shot while they still have Manning. The cap will eventually catch back up to them. Then they will be gutting and rebuilding. |
