Yea, there is. This draft impressed me as one where there were 20 or so really good guys then a drop off leaving a large number of players all about the same. I believe it is the influence of the covid years to a point.

A couple other things...
1. Baalkie impresses me an extremely detailed person.
2. They confirm all combine and pro day stats using film. Running in shorts on a track can be different than in full pads. They try to establish the playing speed.
3. They talk to the guys, their family, coaches, peers, next door neighbors a regular FBI etc.
4. They know the medical background.
5 Most importantly, we don't.

My day 2.5 thoughts...

1. At first glance, some may be less than enthused about the Strange selection at the end of round 2. I admit I did not study him too much prior to the draft. That said, there are some reasons for optimism over this picck,

A. Penn State has a pretty good and lengthy track record in producing TEs over the years, going back to Mickey Shuler in the 1980s with the Jets, Kyle Brady (also with the Jets and the Jaguars), and most recently Pat Friermuth, now with the Steelers.

B. Doug Pederson hasa track record of being with organizations (1990s Packers, Chiefs, Eagles) who have had considerable success at the TE position. Pederson has workedd with/coached guys like Keith Jackson, Mark Chmura, Tony Gonzalez, Zach Ertz, and most recently Engram last year, He knows what to look for at the position, how to develop the players to play TE in his offense, and how to utilize the position effectively.

C. It seems that Strange won't have to start immediately. Assuming no lengthy holdout or injury by Engram, thed team doesn't have to rush Strange's development. While we like guys to have immediate positive impact, he doesn't have to me rushed if all goes well.

2. Though backup RB sis not leap out to many Jaguars fans as one of the primary needs, the Auburn rookie can be a key contributor on this team.

A. Auburn has a long history of producing quality RBs at the NFL level dating back to the 1980s with James Brooks (Bengals), Lionel "Little train" James, Bo Jackson, Stephen Davis, and Cadillac Williams.

B. Watching the clips of him, he reminds me of the Eagles RBs of recent eras like Brian Westbrook. He has some similarities to Etienne in that neither are the biggest guys, but both appear to have some shiftiness/make you misss qualities, and would appear to be valuable in receiving. With the Bigsby selection, we have the smallest gap in ability between starter and backup since FT and MJD (to be clear, FT and MJD are by far the better RB duo at this point). This is the deepest we've been at RB tan we've been in a long time.

C. Snoop Connor will have a very tough time making this roster.

3. Quick Poll/Survey

4. Posing that question above, I think Bartch could be in trouble, especially of the Jaguars continue to address OL with the plethora of Day 3 picks. I might be inclined to now take a risk on Ohio State's Dawand Jones (weight) and Andrew Voorhees (Injury). There are other players that could still help and provide depth. While yesterday was disappointing in the sense the team couldn't trade up for the players they wanted at the bottom of round 3, there are still some good players left. There is an old axiom that goes something like this "Quantity is a quality all its own." Jimmy Johnson believed in accumulating a lot of later picks in the hopes of finding a good player or two late. We have some 9-10 picks left, including four in the 4th round. We need to take advantage.

5. I wonder of Kelee Ringo has any character/injury concerns.

6. One WR prospect I like is A.T. Perry

7. Clark Phillips, Eli Ricks and Ringo are three CB prospects I wouldn't seem to mind-assuming no horrible character issues.

As i stated in the other thread ESPN are reporting that Baalke had a debatable grade on 127 players total... And again to put that into some kind of context we have pick #127 ... And another 8 after that. I acknowledge that some of those players may or may not have gone but unless we have some kind of plan for using those picks there seems a huge potential to waste a lot of draft capital which could have been used in earlier rounds. 

I'd not like to guess but we surely have picked up the phone to the cards to see if they'd be amenable to flipping a couple of picks for Budda Baker

Just because Balke/Pederson had only 127 draftable players doesn't mean those will be the first 127 players drafted or even the 127 players listed any anyone's mock draft. 

Once you start getting into the 4th round every teams' board starts to diverge drastically. Not as much as MLB draft boards. But they will be very very different.

Also for example, there was no reason for some players to be on the Jags board at all, like say the top 8 QB's. I'm sure there were a number of players already drafted who never sniffed the Jags the board.

You can tell how much Baalke and Pederson bring up the intangibles, character, and locker room presence with all 3 men drafted so far in the pressers. I can bet that any player who had a sniff of red flag was removed from their board.

Today is where the draft can be won.  We need to win day 3 at the very least with all our picks.  Can Baalke do it?

Has any GM every hit on every draft pick in a single year?

I mean sure, hold Baalke to high expectations but make them reasonable.

Given the low hit rate from 4th round on, I'd prefer a double dip approach to a number of positions. Maybe he can get a small trade done, but given the reports on talent level of this years draft I doubt anyone is trading 2024 picks for 3rd day picks this year.

I don't see anything wrong with making all 10 picks.  Think how many undrafted free agents we bring in every year, how much effort we put into that, and how often one or more of them makes the team.  It's a lot easier to just pick them instead of competing with other teams for them.

The problem is that if we use our first 5 of those picks wisely, how many of the second 5 will make the 53 man roster?  If they don't make the team, it is a wasted pick.  Some will say "practice squad".  However, in order to make the practice squad, you have to cut the player first.  The player then has to clear waivers.  This means that all 31 of the other teams have to feel that the player isn't worthy of a 53 man roster spot despite a rookie minimum salary.  If that happens, you made a bad pick to start.  If a pick who otherwise would be cut can be used to upgrade the quality of a player who will actually make the team, that is much preferable.  My Plan B would be to trade for a future pick that is a round earlier.  Who knows what our depth will look like a year from now?  It also buys you more time to perhaps trade up next year.  Plan C would be to actually use the pick and hope for the best.

Will Mallory or Zack Kuntz would be nice additions to the TE room. Kuntz is basically that long striding receiving option everybody wanted in Washington.

AT Perry, Xavier Hutchinson and Kayshoun Boutte are there at WR if we absolutely want one for whatever reason.

Bradford, Zavala, Broeker and Vorhees at OG. Jones, Warren, McClendon and Kirkland at OT.

Adebawore, Brooks, Lacy and McGuire at DE. Matlock, Roy, Wooden, Clark and Coburn at DT. Herbig and Abdullah as tweener rushers at OLB.

Plenty of CB and S options left that can fill the nickel role and challenge Herndon as well.

RD4 is where Baalke earns his stripes today. I mean that. These have to be guys that can not only rotate early as rooks but develop into full timers starting in 2024.

They did their homework. A lot of these names above were slotted to go in RD1, RD2 and RD3 by the mock community and here they are in RD4 still with four picks at their disposal to land them.

Looks like they know what the [BLEEP] they're doing and some of you need to relax.

I love your positivity on this year's draft. There are still several good players available who were supposed to be taken earlier. Of the names you mentioned, I could see Adebawore and Brooks as likely pass rush targets. My favorite nickel left is Phillips; there must be some reason he has dropped so far other than his height. 

My major complaint is not moving up for Branch in round 2. Baalke said he tried, but he could have done this with a slightly better offer. Despite his lack of speed to play outside corner, Branch would have been a very good nickel this season before becoming an all-pro safety replacing Jenkins in 2024. They will regret not doing this in a few years. I wasn't quite as upset about moving back and missing out on Torrence. He dropped so far that there may be some health concerns we are not aware of. Either that, or he doesn't fit our scheme. I still believe adding him to the line with the addition of Harrison would have been the right move. His run blocking skill is undeniable.

Bottom line, we have to have faith that Pederson and Baalke knew what they were doing and the players they took were the best fits for their system. It's hard to be critical of anything Pederson has done to this point so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on the Strange and Bigsby selections. Time will tell which of our opinions were right or totally wrong.

Take too many players today and you lose the chance to develop. Not all of them will be ready to rock there first year. They may need time to grow over an offseason or 2. Cutting them this Aug means we’ll lose the chance. Maybe they will have a serious hangnail late in camp or something.

I think many people are over-reacting to the 127 players thing.  Baalke has said that he is prepared with other picks if all 127 were off the board.  I also think some are misinterpreting it as those are his best 127 players in the draft.  They do mock drafts themselves and have a feel for who will be drafted where.  I think it's more a case that he expects his draft to be a subset of those 127 players.  Those 127 players may include 15 players projected to go in the 7th round.
