I am an Auburn Grad, we liked playing against Tebow and Urban for that matter.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Let me explain it for you in a simple, clear way. One was a guy giving a marketing opportunity an ill-fated and gimmicky run in teal hot pants. The other is a dad giving his son an NFL contract out of nowhere. The difference is clear. The fact that one bothered so bad you couldn’t go more than six hours without moaning about it while the other gets a congratulatory free pass doesn’t mean you’re an idiot, though. Unprincipled, certainly, but not an idiot.

Let's get some more accurate perspective here. One was a failed football player (who had never played TE) who turned to baseball to stay relevant, where he also failed. At that point the worst coach in the history of NFL football stupidly decided to give him a tryout - and he - wait for it - failed again. The other is a young man currently in the middle of a professional football career as a TE. He makes 1000% more sense as a camp body for a TE room with little depth than someone completely removed from the sport by years who never even played the position. Even if you round up to 33 per game, it still would only be 561. Poor math. Dude is gonna get a shot. He can put some film down, and if he's lucky, he'll land a spot on someone's PS and make some good money during the USFL offseason. IIRC Josh played TE last season and at least the majority of his time at ULM. You'll have to remind me what his batting average was the past few years, as that was not mentioned in the cited article. Or maybe you're comparing apples to hand grenades? Now if Doug is bringing him in to steal reps from Nathan Rourke, I promise you the rage will come. Unlike your heartthrob, dude has played the position to which he was signed, did well at it (albeit in a less demanding environment), and is being signed for football reasons. Guys like him get brought in by teams all across the league at this time of year. They get their chance to show that they can compete when the stage and competition are bigger, and if they don't, they end up back in the underleagues. Should a TE have recorded such a number of receiving yards in the NFL last season - they'd rank 13th in that category between Dalton Schultz and Gerald Everett - for perspective. (not 12th as my poor math suggested) And yes, I know Pederson did not play in the NFL, no need to remind me. Just attempting to provide perspective to those downplaying the numbers.

Tebow still sucks just as bad as he did the day he was over-drafted. He'll still suck just as bad tomorrow too. He was brought in by the worst head coach in NFL history while this kid was brought in by our Super Bowl winning head coach who overturned the Urban Error in a matter of months. Topping it off with the fact that you don't like it means it's the best thing we could do for this franchise. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
This is amusing. Jaguars.com posted a story about Josh Pederson being signed but did not mention he is the son of the HC.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed TE Josh Pederson and waived/injured TE Leonard Taylor, the team announced today. If Taylor clears waivers, he will revert to the Jaguars injured reserve list. Pederson played in all 10 games during the 2023 USFL season for the Houston Gamblers. He caught 25 passes for 325 yards and ranked third in receiving yards among tight ends. Prior to joining the Gamblers, he spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, and Kansas City Chiefs during the 2021 season. Originally from Moorestown, N.J., Pederson played collegiately at Louisiana-Monroe and caught 99 passes for 1,191 yards and 11 touchdowns. In 2019, he was named All-Sun Belt First Team after recording 43 receptions for 567 receiving yards and a team-leading nine receiving touchdowns. He attended Blue Valley North high school where he caught 73 passes for 1,102 yards and 16 touchdowns in two seasons. (07-10-2023, 03:02 PM)homebiscuit Wrote: This is amusing. The harder you work to make it seem like being the coaches son has nothing to do with him turning up at the Jags instead of any other NFL team (who have no idea who he is), the more you dig the hole. I could care less about him. But I am humoured by ease with which this board decides principle based on expediency. (07-10-2023, 03:02 PM)homebiscuit Wrote: This is amusing. Jaguars.com posted a story about Josh Pederson being signed but did not mention he is the son of the HC. Heh. A nice little chuckle, this. Of course, its easy to see why the club whitewashes the embarassment. This move builds the son’s coaching resume. With time in an NFL camp it will be far more likely he can pick up an NFL coaching gig. It’s good dad is helping him out. Dads are supposed to do that. This righteous board, however, doing its best blind monkeys impersonation is another thing. To pretend that “coach’s son” is not the most important factor, indeed the only factor, that has him in this camp is a damning indictment on yourselves. Especially just two short seasons after you all had the vapours over a far less personally indicting case of favouritism. It is you all that I’m judging, not the Jags or Pedersons. Virtual nobodies get added to rosters this time of year on the reg. Here are the TEs ahead of him: Evan Engram Brenton Strange Luke Farrell Gerritt Prince Sammis Reyes Leonard Taylor If he somehow beats out four of those guys (and the potential H-Back/FB candidate) for a roster spot and one of them goes on to a better career, I'll happily bow in acceptance to your premature cries of nepotism. For now - it seems rather innocuous. That is exactly the same rationalising about Tebow that had you foaming at the mouth. It’s clear you understand exactly what you’re doing but hope that by pretending you don’t, that you’ll get a pass. Your attempt to say “nothing to see here” is fine with me. But go ahead and make some offseason camp body discussion about my "integrity." Haha, man I hope you are having a laugh at this - cuz you can't possibly be serious. I don't need a "pass" from you or anyone. We're shooting the breeze about a guy that likely won't make the practice squad. Not solving the world's problems.
This is a feel good story but hopefully not a distraction in a negative way.
Never ever compare Tbow's TE play to an actual TE. Guy would have gotten some of our guys killed if he had played much more.
