Preseason Week Two Countdown

I was counting on Fatukasi to have a big rebound this season and hope the fact he was placed in a boot is more precautionary than a serious injury. Regardless, I'd have to re-visit the possibility of signing Clowney. He is excellent against the run and if Foley is out they'll need someone to pick up the slack in this area. He is also capable of getting some sacks despite underperforming in this area the past few seasons. Are you really suggesting Clowney as a replacement for Foley’s position? Really? Glad you asked. No, they obviously don't play the same position but both are vey good run stoppers. If Foley is out for any time the team will need to pick up the slack in run defense. Clowney has excelled at that and even though he won't be plugged into Foley's position he would still help the run defense. We show less advertisements to registered users. Pretty sure Dalton Risner is already signed elsewhere, for whom ever mentioned that
Strike that, I see the Vikings did not actually sign him (08-17-2023, 02:35 PM)Jags32250 Wrote:(08-17-2023, 02:27 PM)jaglou53 Wrote: Glad you asked. I'll leave all of those decisions up to Mike Caldwell and his staff. Clowney has played edge rusher in different schemes (4-3 and 3-4). Regardless of where he has played, he has always been rated as one of the top run stoppers by PFF. No, he is not nearly as big as Fatukasi, who was being projected to be the starting nose tackle in the team's base defense. I do believe he could be very effective setting the Edge against the run and would be part of a rotation (possibly as both a defensive end and outside linebacker in the 3-4). The guy reportedly can be somewhat difficult and left Cleveland on bad terms, but his athleticism has never been questioned. Possibly a change of scenery and having a coach like Pederson will help jump-start his career. He has undoubtably been far from the player he was projected to be when he entered the NFL, but he is still only 30 years old and should have something left in the tank.
I think the need for a backup/rotational nose tackle may supersede the need for a DE/OLB with Fatukasi out. He was supposed to be a big piece of the puzzle for our interior DL.
If it looks like he's going to miss multiple reg season games, I think they need another 300#+ DT/NT added to this roster. Right now it is Davon Hamilton, a late round rookie (Voahasek), and Jeremiah Ledbetter (who weighs in shy of 300 but played some NT prior to the NFL) We show less advertisements to registered users. The following are Jeff Risdon's observations from Thursday Joint Practice. He expressed that the Jaguars LBs might be the fastest LB group the Lions face all season. Just hope that the LB's can be fast all season in the regular season here. May have to workout some kinks!
Ready for May Day, May Flowers, and Memorial and Mother's Day!

That's a recipe for allowing yards in bunches. (08-17-2023, 07:14 PM)Cleatwood Wrote: Foley was on an off the injury report pretty much all year last year too. wonder if it's the same ankle/foot?
