last year the Jags initially kept 7 CBs on their 53 man roster 

Could do so again depending on who they keep and who they label a Safety or CB

We know Ty Campbell and D Williams are locks to start outside, so how will it shake out from there down the depth chart?

Candidates include

Tre Herndon (vet who knows the system - but loses in coverage too often)
Tevaughn Campbell - Canadian transplant player with experience but talent level is questionable
Montaric Brown - 2nd year guy making some splashes in camp - still unproven with a ways to go
Gregory Junior - 2nd year guy getting looks at nickel in camp - showing some promise 
Erick Hallett - rookie safety/CB hybrid drawing praise from coaches throughout camp
Christian Braswell - rookie who missed 2 weeks of camp - but now looks like he's in the mx to compete for a spot
Claybrooks - 4th year guy who looks to be losing the backup returner role to Parker Washington and losing depth snaps to younger players with upside

Antonio Johnson is listed as a safety - so if you add him to this list - you are assuming the team keeps 4 safeties and 7 CBs that may include Johnson. If you assume Johnson makes it as a safety - the team might only keep 6 CBs. 

Rookies Divaad Wilson and Kaled Hayes round out the camp depth and are long shots for the 53. 


Name three of these guys you are keeping on the roster. 

Herndon, Junior and Johnson are in. Brown and Hallett deserve a lot of consideration, though. I'd give the edge to Brown due to experience, but Hallett will probably get called up from PS if anyone is out with injury for an extended time.

Between Agnew and Washington, I think Claybrooks is quite expendable now. Herndon is a very sure tackler and I think that gives him the edge over some of the younger guys.

If only he could cover instead of tackle he'd be fine. Being able to surely tackle the guy after you give up 12 yards on the catch (every time) isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I don't care if he's a backup, depth whatever.. just don't really want him starting at nickel after how piss poor he was last season.

Well unless Greg Junior seriously impresses in these next two games, it's highly likely Herndon will be starting on the inside come week 1.

Yeah I know and I hate it. It sucks because the first year or so Herndon was here I felt like he might have some talent, and even last year when Shaq went down I was like SURELY Herndon isn't gonna blow huge passing plays in crucial situations the way Shaq was.. and then he did, over and over again and i'm just over it. I don't know if he's just bad or if he's just too slow to keep up with WRs but it's one of the two and I don't wanna see him on the field unless the guy infront of him is hurt.

• Erick Hallett - I'm least confident about this one.  In fact, I'm more likely wrong than right.  I think the odds are nearly even between Erick Hallet, Christian Braswell, Montaric Brown and Tevaughn Campbell.  Brown is the incumbent but played very sparingly last year.  Hallet and Braswell are late round picks.  Braswell missed some time, so I feel Hallet is ahead, but that could easily change.  Braswell started off the first pre-season game rough, but then made a big play with an interception.  Tevaughn Campbell plays solidly but seems to have limited upside.  I prefer someone with more potential, but if the team feels the other players will make the practice squad anyway, I could see the Jaguars taking Campbell if they think he's the most effective player right now.  This is a tough call.
  

I don't think Chris Claybrooks makes the team.  He's not a very good cornerback.  Claybrooks has been in the league for 3 years, so I don't think he's going to start magically improving now.  He's also no longer needed as a backup returner.  It appears Parker Washington will handle backup return duties and the Jaguars also added D'Ernest Johnson this offseason.  Claybrooks only hope to make the team is as a gunner, but I don't think that will be enough.  We have other options who play special teams that give us much better value if they are forced to actually play cornerback.  When you factor Claybrooks' off-the-field issues, his exit is likely.

It's not how you start but how you finish. Herndon might start but I doubt he finishes with the way Junior and Johnson are playing so far.

Good breakdown.  Last year on the initial 53 I believe they had 4 safeties and 7 corners.  But don't believe they always keep 11 DBs in total.  I agree with pretty much everything you have.  Only a few other considerations.  At this point I'd consider Cisco, Jenkins, Winguard, Campbell, Williams, Johnson, and Junior locks with Thomas and Herndon almost locks but wouldnt be shocked if cut.  I think you could argue Thomas is basically a lock (isn't he a good special teamer?) but if for some reason they really liked the young corners, they could also consider Johnson the 4th safety bumping Thomas out.  I know they like Herndon because of his experience and ability to play multiple roles if need be.  But again, if they really liked the young corners, he could also get bumped.  But similar to you I don't really know how to feel about the corners once you get past Junior.  He seems to be the obvious standout.  but after that its a bit of crapshoot.  At least one of Hallett, Braswell, Brown, and Campbell make it.  Maybe two if they keep 7 corners again.  And if any more then Thomas or Herndon is out.

I wouldn't put too much stock in every little opinion from Lageman anyway.

He does this every year. Pumps up a few favorites and diminishes a few he's noticed a bad play or two from.

Like most of us - he misses on these things sometimes. 

That said - Greg Junior has made plays this preseason but there have def been some big whiffs mixed in that could be concerning to the staff. We'll know in a week.

I was kind of wondering this, since they were both part of the same class it's easy to confuse the two.
