2 weeks till we get our walking wounded back and 4 till Cam can play
A new broom always sweeps clean.
Not addressing the interior of the line was my main concern for this season.
Scherff is on the decline and last year he managed to have a full season in quite some time but injury wise you expect him to miss some time here and there. Fortner needed to improve badly. Bartch had a season ending injury and he wasn't like an all-pro before that. Shatley is a decent versatile back up but certainly not someone you want to play often. No idea why they didn't address it with the boatload of picks we had instead of going for backup RB's and rotational TEs (I like Strange but that's not the point here, protecting Trevor and building the OL is way more important). A lot of dlines will give big troubles to our OL. I know help is not on the way but if this staff is serious about wanting to contend comes January I hope they find a way to make a couple of moves. We need a Marcell Dareus trade kind of move before the deadline in my opionion. Not many quality OL guys that will likely be available for cheap but OL is the one things we absolutely need to protect Trevor longterm and have this offense function. In the playoffs every DL would feast on this OL group the way it's playing right now. Maybe Cam Robinson coming up with Little sliding at G could help some but I still feel like looking for outside help could be the best move. Not that I expect that to happen after the way they basically ignored the position in the offfseason.

So..in 4 weeks....
Cam, Little, Fortner, Barch, Harrison IMO those are the best starting 5...and moving Bartch to Scherff's spot would be an upgrade. Neither should start at RG though. Both are quality backups. The Titans defense line might eat Trevor alive.

Brandon Scherff is no longer that dude. Next season I want him gone. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! If this is the line-up I would say it's Fortner and Bartch as the weakest links. Maybe rotate Scherff and Bartch if possible on a certain series to mix it up but they really should move some things around before they ship out to London this week to acquire another decent starting caliber Center or Guard. Risner is out there. He's a flexible player across the line if I am not mistaken. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I'd also throw Hance and anyone they can find into the RG competition at this point. Be ready if one of these guys either goes down or continues to play like a turnstile. Pull the trigger and put some fresh blood out there instead of watching a train wreck for 4 quarters. Trevor isn't going to make it through the season getting pummeled that often each week. And we see how it has neutered the offense.
I doubt it happens but I'd like to see

Little has been pretty good. When Cam comes back move him to lg. He'd probably be dominant at that position. Harrison will improve with reps.
C and RG we'll have to make due until we can address in off-season. I think fortnee can still improve so I wouldn't write him off just yet. Scherff can't stay healthy and isn't the player he used to be. Csn hope he regains his form as season progresses but theyll definitely need to address in off-season ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff.
I wouldnt be so quick to declare the OLine fixed just because Robinson is returning in 2 weeks. Post-PED Cam may be a lesser version of PED Cam. Didnt look very good in preseason.

Just feels reckless from a roster management standpoint. Did we really think drafting just one RT on the opening night of the draft and then waiting all the way until RD7 to take another tackle was going to resolve their issues? It's a gross oversight at this point. (09-18-2023, 03:12 PM)Mikey Wrote:(09-17-2023, 05:34 PM)OzJohnnie Wrote: TL sacks. Bigsby having one or two snaps yesterday was a bit of a head scratcher. I'm going to hash out some armchair analysis of this OL going series by series between spurts of work today:
1st SERIES:
So on only 2 plays out of 7 was this line asked to hold up for more than 1.5 seconds. They held for 2 seconds in time for a dropped ball and then got Trevor sacked immediately following in only 2.2 seconds. ONLY TWO out of seven plays did they actually need to traditionally pass protect (not a quick release) and they only managed one. No blitz. Just 4 rushers on 5 linemen. SECOND SERIES:
THIRD SERIES:
OK- first three series Of the 19 plays - we had: 3 run plays negatively affected by bad blocking 4 pass plays negatively affected by bad blocking 1 bad snap / busted play Are we OK with 35% of plays from the LOS being botched by the OL to start a game? I'll try to get through more series whenever I have time. (09-18-2023, 03:08 PM)NewJagsCity Wrote: I wouldnt be so quick to declare the OLine fixed just because Robinson is returning in 2 weeks. He did look pretty good in preseason to me after the slow start, but... you know... back ups etc. (09-18-2023, 11:48 AM)NYC4jags Wrote:(09-18-2023, 11:42 AM)AnOldBrownie Wrote: So..in 4 weeks.... If that's the best they can do we're in trouble. I'll wait when you break more down but in particular I want to see what you see when they had the TE's pulling around and helping inside. I swear, the few times I caught it in motion Etienne was picking up 5-6 YPC and it's possible they could get more out of that with him finding daylight or breaking a tackle down the road. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? The crazy thing about those 19 plays I tried to break down - 7 of them were quick hitters/fast release designs.
So the OC is already trying to mitigate the poor protection, but it isn't enough. |
